Not enough to win the war

When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, many people thought it was a matter of weeks for the Kyiv government to fall. The country’s resilience has been admirable, but is not enough to win the war.

America's top brass in Europe

General Christopher Cavoli, head of the US European Command and the highest-ranking American military commander in Europe, has revealed that Ukraine could be outgunned ten to one in a matter of weeks.

Help wanted

According to AP News, Cavoli informed about the dire situation to the US Congress in early April, requesting further assistance.

Outnumbered

“They are now being outshot by the Russian side five to one,” argued the head of the American troops in Europe to the US Congress. “So the Russians fire five times as many artillery shells at the Ukrainians than the Ukrainians are able to fire back”.

A matter of weeks

“That will immediately go to 10 to one in a matter of weeks,” Cavoli warned, adding that “we’re not talking about months. We’re not talking hypothetically.”

Holding the line

Currently, Ukraine is rationing ammunition as the United States Congress debates whether to approve 60 billion US dollars to further aid Ukraine.

Johnson takes the lead

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson is trying to push forward the bill to fund ammunition from US firms, however he’s meeting resistance from lawmakers who believe that the 60 billion could be allocated for domestic needs.

Not all Republicans think alike

CNN writes that among those opposing Johnson’s proposal to vote over the Ukraine aid is fellow Republican representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Greene Vs. Johnson

Greene warned the speaker she would seek a house vote to oust Mike Johnson if he tried to move ahead on a package of aid to Ukraine.

Other countries, other problems

In early 2024, the House of Representatives approved a 95-billion-dollar package to provide military aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

Russian reserves

According to Politico, General Cavoli, the head of the US Military Command in Europe, also warned that Russia is replacing military losses far faster than previously expected.

Just the first step?

Cavoli claims that if Kyiv loses the battles, this could have dire consequences for the rest of Europe.

Eastern Europe at risk

The highest-ranking US military commander in Europe believes that the Kremlin would hardly stop with Ukraine and continue its aggressive tactics elsewhere in Eastern Europe.

The magic of friendship

Not only that, but an official press release by the US Defense Department also highlights that Cavoli speculates that, thanks to the war, Russia developing closer partnerships with China, Iran, and North Korea.

Good partners, better allies

“These countries are forming interlocking, strategic partnerships in an attempt to challenge the existing order”, Cavoli declared, per the US Defense Department.

Before it's too late

What is true is that if the aid isn’t approved soon enough by the Congress of the United States, the fall of Ukraine could be a sooner rather than later.
