Zinedine Zidane’s incredible new career move!
Football legend Zinedine Zidane has made a bold move as he has accepted the role of Le Mans 24 Hour starter, per Motorsport.
Zidane is set to take up the ceremonial role on 15th June, with the historic race starting at 4pm CEST.
The Frenchman described the honour, saying, “The Le Mans 24 Hours is beyond compare: it’s an iconic race for anyone who loves motorsport, for people all around the world, and a source of immense pride for France.”

Zidane’s appointment has been met with praise by the President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, who run Le Mans. Pierre Fillon said the race could not have hope for a, “more prestigious starter”.
Fillon continued by describing the Le Mans race as, “a world-renowned event that, throughout its history, has welcomed some great names from many different horizons.”
Zidane is following in the footsteps of basketballing royalty with LeBron James dropping the flag at the 2023 edition of the endurance race, per the official race website.
The list of previous starters includes other huge sporting names, including Rafael Nadal, Brad Pitt, Fernando Alonso, and legendary actor Steve McQueen, per Le Mans’ website.
Per Motorsport, Zidane is only one step removed from Le Mans himself, with former French teammate Fabian Barthez racing in the event three times between 2014 and 2017.
Le Mans comprises one-third of motor racing’s Triple Crown, alongside The Indianapolis 500 and the Monaco Grand Prix. Only one person has completed the Triple Crown so far, Graham Hill of Britain, per Reuters.
Hopefully, for Zidane, he will be able to keep a clear head during his ceremonial duties after his infamous headbutt on Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup Final!
