Playoff Fever

Probably WNBA rookie of the year Caitlin Clark has led her side back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016, but now, with just one game left in the regular season, her Indiana Fever team has three possible playoff opponents, but which one does Clark want to face?

No preference

Clark was asked by reporters if she had a preferred opponent for her team’s opening-round matchup, she responded, “I don’t have a preference no.”

“Crazy”

Clark continued, “I think that’d be kind of crazy,” suggesting she isn’t worried by any of her possible opponents.

Three options

The Fever could play any one of the Minnesota Lynx, Connecticut Sun, or Las Vegas Aces, with the matchup decided following the last round of regular season games.

A look at the Lynx

The Lynx currently sit top of the Western Conference and hold the number 2 seed in the playoff bracket with a record of 30-9 over the season. In three games this season, the Lynx have gone 1-2 against the Fever, with the loss coming in July. The more recent games have been blowouts in Minnesota’s favor.

Flying too close to the Sun

Similarly, the Connecticut Sun have gone 3-1 in four regular season matchups against Clark’s Fever this season and sit second in the Eastern Conference while currently holding the third overall seed.

Aces in the hole

The Fever have faced the Aces three times this season, but again, they struggled against their possible playoff opponent, having gone 0-3 over the season.

Unfavorable matchups

Despite Clark’s blase attitude, the Fever’s record against their possible playoff opponents is currently at 6-2, which suggests they have some work to do if they want to make it beyond the first round.

Keep it professional

In defense of Clark’s comments, the rookie did say, “I just think wherever we go, we go, and you prep the same exact way you’d prep for anyone else,” per Next Impulse Sports, suggesting she will be taking her playoff debut seriously regardless of the possible opponent.

Excited to watch

For our part, we are just excited to watch Caitlin Clark in the playoffs. Her performances over the season have steadily improved, and she is already amongst the best in the league, now she has a chance to stamp her authority on the playoffs in her first year as a pro!
