The fastest man in history was seen leaving the pitch during Soccer Aid 2024. Bolt was playing for the World XI in the annual event that raised over £100 million (€118 million/$127 million) for Unicef this year, per The Sun.

Out of position

Bolt who usually plays as a forward during Soccer Aid matches, was playing in defence when the injury occurred.

Done by Defoe

According to The Daily Mail, Bolt was dribbled past by former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe. Bolt attempted to tackle Defoe, which is seemingly when the injury occurred.

Insult to injury

Defore continued his mazy run to smash past former world champion boxer Tony Bellew in goal, only adding to Bolt’s agony.

Bolt’s update

Having been seen leaving the pitch on a stretcher, Bolt updated fans with an Instagram post where he explained he had ruptured his Achilles heel during the incident.

“Warrior”

Bolt’s message read, “Ruptured Achilles but done know we a warrior,” suggesting we will see him back up and running as soon as humanly possible.

England finally win

According to The Sun, the England XI, comprised of former footballers, other sportspeople and celebrities, was able to snap a five-year losing streak to get the win against the World XI, with the match finishing 6-3.

Bolt’s football career

Usain Bolt may be best known for his outstanding performances in the 100 and 200 metre sprints, but many might not know he attempted a professional football career after retiring from athletics.

Trials

Bolt, a huge Manchester United fan, was given trial opportunities and both United and Borussia Dortmund, according to GiveMeSport. He described his attempts to make it in football as a “dream”.

A-League

Bolt then moved down under, playing a series of matches for A-League side Central Coast Mariners. Bolt was more successful for the Mariners, scoring two goals in a pre-season friendly against Macarthur South West United. Despite Bolt’s agent suggesting the Jamaican was offered a contract, he was never a full member of the A-League side.
