'They won nothing': Harry Kane fires back following Euro 2024 criticism
Harry Kane has responded to Gary Lineker's recent criticism of the 'Three Lions' at the Euro 2024, claiming former national team players are responsible for considering the impact of their words... But is Lineker right?
Both Southgate and the English national team are under pressure to produce better football on the pitch, after their embarrassing 1-1 draw against Denmark. Something needs to be tweaked on the pitch.
The 'Three Lions' failed to put on a convincing performance after their questionable game against Serbia.
While Kane said he understood the pundits, he added former players should be aware of the challenge of representing England given the nation's historic and persistent failures at major tournaments, according to The Athletic.
"What ex-players have to realize is that it is very hard not to listen to it now, especially from some players who are not to it or who are new to the environment. I always feel like they [pundits] have a responsibility," shared Kane during his press conference.
Furthermore, England's number '9' fired back at Gary Lineker following his negative comments after the draw against Denmark. "They won nothing," shared the Bayern Munich striker during a press conference, pointed dart aimed right back at Lineker, according to The Sun.
During his Match of the Day podcast, Gary Linker slammed Southgate's team, labelling the draw against Denmark as "s***".
Furthermore, Lineker didn't hesitate to flame Southgate for his poor management so far. "[Southgate] is a f****g great human being. I mean, you can think of all sorts of words and expletives if you like, but it was s***," shared the former England striker during his podcast.
While pundits and fans agree something has to change over at the England camp, too much criticism will do little to help the team. "Everyone has got their opinion but the bottom line is we have not won anything as a nation for a long, long time and a lot of these players were part of that as well, so they know how tough it is," shared Kane during his press conference.
Gareth Southgate's side is preparing for their final Group C clash against Slovenia, which should be an easy game for the 'Three Lions'. A must-win for the English team to qualify first in their group.
