At the pointy end

The 2022-2023 NHL Season has been a wild ride, and it isn't even over yet. We're only two weeks short of the official end date of the season and there are 15 players who have pushed themselves into ultra-topline forward territory with 85 points or more. Let's take a look at who they are.

15. Brayden Point - 86 Points

Brayden Point hasn't really slowed down since his 2018-2019 breakout season and this year wasn't an exception. Netting 47 goals and 39 assists so far, he's going to cause some trouble for teams in postseason play.

14. Jack Hughes - 86 Points

Jack Hughes is one of the big reasons the New Jersey Devils are going to be a contender for the Stanley Cup this year. Hughes racked up 40 goals and 46 assists before he was taken out in February with an upper-body injury that he still seems to be struggling with today.

13. Mikko Rantanen - 88 Points

Mikko Rantanen has risen to become one of the league's top goal scorers during his time with the Colorado Avalanche, no doubt influenced by the amount of time he spends on the ice with Nathan MacKinnon. Rantanen has netted 48 goals this season and 40 assists.

12. Tage Thompson - 89 points

With 44 goals and 45 assists, Tage Thompson has crushed all expectations had this season. Too bad we aren't likely to see him or the Buffalo Sabres in the playoffs again this year.

11. Jason Robertson - 91 points

Jason Robertson has proven to be one of the best left-wingers in the league this year. With 41 goals and 50 assists, he might just make the Dallas Stars a force to be reckoned with in postseason play.

10. Erik Karlsson - 91 Points

Erik Karlsson is the only defenseman to make this list, which really shows just how amazing he is as a player. With 22 goals and a whopping 69 assists, Karlsson has proven to be one of the best playmakers in the league. It's a shame we won't see him play in the postseason this year.

9. Mitchell Marner - 95 Points

If the Toronto Maple Leafs ever had a chance at breaking their decades-long Stanley Cup drought, it would be with now with Mitch Marner on the right wing. Marner is less of a goal scorer and more of a playmaker, and with his 28 goals and 67 assists, he's going to be one of the key players that will help Toronto advance into the later rounds of the postseason.

8. Elias Petterson - 95 Points

Elias Pettersson is the best even-strength points earner in the league this year according to Canucks Army, which is why it sucks that we won't get to see him put that talent to work in the playoffs this year. As of now, Pettersson has 35 goals and 60 assists for the season, but that will probably end up being a little higher and he'll likely break 100 points before April 14th.

7. Nathan MacKinnon - 95 Points

Nathan MacKinnon is another power forward who will probably break 100 points before the end of the regular season. With 32 goals and 63 assists, MacKinnon could be the key to Colorado winning the Stanley Cup this year.

6. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - 96 Points

If the Edmonton Oilers are going to advance in the postseason this year it's going to be on the back of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Even though he's in his 12th professional season, he's proving he still has a few career bests in front of him. With 35 goals and 61 assists, this year is already considered his best.

5. Matthew Tkachuk - 97 Points

Matthew Tkachuk and the Florida Panthers probably won't be making a postseason appearance, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't celebrate Tkachuk's epic season. After 72 games played, Tkachuk has scored 35 times and has 62 assists. He will without a doubt be making it to the 100-plus point range before his season is over.

4. David Pasternak - 98 Points

David Pasternak is having one of the best seasons of his career, which might be why the Boston Bruins are having one of the best seasons the team has had in years. Favorites to win the Stanley Cup, Pasternak's 52 goals and 46 assists are what helped put the Bruins in a position to be this year's ultimate winners.

3. Nikita Kucherov - 104 Points

Nikita Kucherov has earned an impressive 104 points this season despite only scoring 28 goals. It is Kucherov's 76 assists that have pushed him over the 100-point mark and it is his ability to be a playmaker that's going to make him dangerous in this year's postseason.

2. Leon Draisaitl - 116 Points

If you needed any more proof that the Edmonton Oilers are going to have a killer showing in the postseason then look no further. Draisaitl has 47 goals and 69 assists, yet he's not even the best player on the team this year. You should expect him to break 120 points before the end of the regular season, especially with Evander Kane and Kailer Yamamoto at his sides.

1. Connor McDavid - 143 points

You knew this was coming... Connor McDavid has been a beast this year. The Oilers captain has 60 goals and a league-leading 89 assists. It will be interesting to see if McDavid can break 150 points before the regular season reaches its conclusion.
