The Premier League returns this weekend, with some of the world's best strikers chasing the 2024/25 Golden Boot. These are the biggest contenders for the award.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

The most obvious candidate on the list is Manchester City's Erling Haaland, who's bidding to become the third player to win the Premier League Golden Boot for a third year running, joining Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer, the Premier League website reports.

Ridiculous record

Haaland's goal-scoring record in the Premier League is astonishing, netting 63 goals in 66 appearances and finishing five goals clear of Cole Palmer last season despite missing two months due to injury.

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

By Mohamed Salah's high expectations, the Liverpool forward had a relatively quiet season for the 'Reds' in 2023/24, scoring 18 goals and creating ten assists. However, under new boss Arne Slot, the Egyptian attacker will be reinvigorated to step up again.

Consistency

According to Yahoo Sports, Salah scored 18+ Premier League goals in all seven seasons at Liverpool, becoming a model of success and consistency. Only former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry (4) has more Golden Boots than Salah (3).

Alexander Isak (Newcastle)

Swedish ace Alexander Isak was remarkable for Newcastle United last year, becoming the first player since Alan Shearer to score 20+ league goals for the 'Magpies' (21).

Near the top

Isak averaged a goal every 107 minutes last season, having only started 27 league games. If fully fit and with Newcastle not playing in Europe this season, the Newcastle forward man will be near the top of the goal-scoring charts.

Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)

England's Euro 2024 semi-final hero, Ollie Watkins, is riding a new wave of expectation this season, having fired Aston Villa to the Champions League and sending England to the Euro 2024 Final.

One of the most complete players

Transfermarkt reports Watkins was the Premier League assists leader last year (13) and fired in 19 league goals, becoming one of the most complete players in Europe under Unai Emery. The 28-year-old has more room to develop, and this year could be his best.

Dom Solanke (Tottenham)

New Tottenham striker Dom Solanke is tasked with filling Harry Kane's boots at Spurs this season after a breakout Premier League campaign at Bournemouth, scoring 19 goals while finishing in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Surrounded by technicians

This season, Solanke will be surrounded by world-class technicians James Maddison, Heung Min Son, and Rodrigo Bentacur. With the better players around him, Solanke could flourish and break the 20+ Premier League goals barrier.

Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace)

The surprise addition to this list is Jean-Philippe Mateta, but is it a surprise? Mateta has found a new level since the start of 2024, scoring 19 goals, including five for France at the Olympic Games. Will he continue his exceptional form?
