Roma sack Mourinho: The 'Special One' is looking for a new club

Jose Mourinho, also known as the 'Special One', has broken ties with Roma, and is now looking for a new club!

The Giallorossi club announced it with a peremptory statement, "AS Roma announces that José Mourinho and his technical collaborators will leave the Club".

Currently 9th in the Serie A, the team has struggled to secure points under Jose Mourinho. The latest drama was in their most recent defeat against AC Milan. The lack of points and good football have doomed the 'Special One'.

The club's statement arrived shortly after 9.30 am on 16 January, with the usual thanks, immediately after the bombshell news: "We thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and commitment made since his arrival in the Giallorossi".

Mourinho's impact on the team will always be remembered but a change in leadership is needed. "We will always have great memories of his management, but we believe that, in the best interests of the club, an immediate change is necessary"

Mourinho joined Roma as head coach in May 2021, strongly desired by Dan Friedkin who, according to Skysport, went to pick him up in person in London.

During the Portuguese's management, however, Roma managed to win the Conference League in 2022 and reach the final of the European League in 2023, results which, evidently, were not the answer to the club's expectations; the progress of the championship, then, would seem to have been the final blow.

The name of who will replace Mourinho at the helm of Roma is a known figure at the club. As of now, there are not many head coaches available that fit Roma's stature.

Roma has announced the appointment of Daniele De Rossi as the new coach, until June 2024. "We knew the indissoluble bond that unites Daniele to the Club, but the enthusiasm with which he immediately accepted this challenge for the next few months made us further convinced of his ability to be a guide for the players and a proud representative of the values of this club. Welcome home, Daniele”, reads the statement.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Roma fans were anxiously awaiting the arrival of one of the team's former captains!

De Rossi is a legend of Roma, the team in which he played for almost 20 years, from 2000 to 2019, before moving to Boca Juniors, where he ended his career.

As a coach, in addition to his experience as a staff member in Mancini's Italy, for De Rossi, this is a major opportunity to prove himself as head coach. Will he succeed in the arduous task of bringing Roma back to the top of the table?

As for the outgoing coach, however, this is the 4th consecutive dismissal for Mourinho, after those of Tottenham (2021), Manchester Utd (2018) and Chelsea (2015). Where will he go now?

According to English bookmakers, there are two possible destinations for the Portuguese: Saudi Arabia or the Premier League. In any case, we are sure that he still has a lot to say to the world of football and that he will do so with his usual passion, wherever his destiny takes him.
