Record breaking deal on table as five teams fight to take Mbappé
With PSG angered by Mbappé’s recent comments, and their belief he has already agreed to sign with Real Madrid next season, the Parisian club is now listening to offers for the French superstar.
PSG are adamant they are not going to lose their star player for free in 2024 and as a result, at least five teams are now trying desperately to sign to Frenchman.
PSG are reportedly so angry with Mbappé, they even left him out of their preseason tour to Japan. With his status now in flux, let’s take a look at who is after Mbappe.
Saudi Arabian football is throwing a lot of money around at the moment as they attempt to build one of the biggest and best football leagues in the world. As part of this plan they have offered PSG a whopping $300 million US for Mbappé's signature.
Per a tweet by journalist James Benge on July 24, the Saudi club is also offering Mbappé a whopping salary of $700 million for just one season at the club.
Al-Hilal also seems aware of Mbappé’s desire to end up in Madrid as they are offering Mbappe $700 million, with no expectations he stays longer than one year, with him free to sign for Los Blancos in 2024. This again comes from James Benge, with some reports suggesting differently.
With an offer this large on the table, PSG has been backed into a corner, as such they have given Mbappé permission to talk to the Saudi club.
Whilst permission has been given for the Frenchman to talk to Al-Hilal, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has tweeted there have been no conversations between the club and the player just yet.
Romano has also tweeted that, with such a large offer on the table, “obviously accepting €300m bid”. ($332m US)
There are reports that at least four other clubs are seriously interested in signing Mbappé, but who are they?
According to French newspaper L'Equipe, Barcelona are throwing their hat in the ring for Mbappé's signature. L'Equipe are reporting Barca are desperate to sign the Frenchman and are willing to throw in players such as Frenkie De Jong as makeweights to get the deal over the line.
Chelsea has no shortage of cash, as shown by their incredible spending over the past 12 months. According to some reports from RMC, Chelsea have also been given permission to speak to Mbappé, with a substantial contract proposal offered
Arsenal are flexing their own financial muscles this transfer window, having spent over £200 million already, but reports from the Independent suggest if Mbappé were to move to England, the North London club would be his preferred destination. The links to Thierry Henry are too good to ignore!
Liverpool have, in the past, held talks with the Frenchman, who admitted the Reds were his mother’s favourtie club. Liverpool would certainly struggle with the financial side, but emotionally, the connection is already there for Mbappé.
Kylian Mbappé is destined for Real Madrid at some point in his career, this much has seemed obvious for many years now, so why not bite the bullet and move this year? Madrid has already spent big on Jude Bellingham this summer so may not have the cash, but PSG doesn’t have much leverage.
Mbappé is still under contract in Paris so could well be forced to stay there for one more season if they can’t force him out. He has spoken about his desire to stay at PSG, but the club is not interested. If he stays, he could well be forced to sit in the stands for a year.
If the Al-Hilal reports are true, Mbappé playing in Saudi Arabia becomes a very likely scenario. The amount of money being offered, to both the club and player, is too much to turn down. It would be the biggest blow to European football yet to see one of the best players, in his prime, moving to Saudi football, but ultimately, cash is king.
