PSG dressing room turns against Kylian Mbappé after 'disrespectful' interview
Nothing is going well at Paris Saint-Germain. After a very complicated season and the departure of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, once the jewel in the PSG crown, is now in midst of a huge fallout with the club management.
For several weeks, the French striker and President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi have been talking to the media about the star forward after Mbappé sent them a letter stating that he will not extend his time at PSG.
This has created a huge headache for the Parisian club as Mbappé has only one year left on his contract and, if PSG want to recoup any money on his contract, they must sell him this summer.
This situation is very uncomfortable for both parties and attracts the interest of several clubs. Real Madrid seems to be the priority option but Liverpool and Manchester United are also in the running.
So where will the French striker be next year? Hard to say. In any case, the PSG dressing room is divided on the subject, evidenced by a letter sent by six players to management last week.
On July 8, Sky Sports revealed the content of this letter, which responds to Kylian Mbappé's statement to France Football (drafted in June but published in July the day after the Champions League elimination against Bayern Munich.
The Frenchman told the magazine: “Are people trivializing my performances? Yes, but at the same time, I don't blame them. In France, they saw me grow up, they see me all the time, at PSG every weekend or in the national team.
According to the native of Bondy, this “trivialization” is partly due to PSG: “I think playing in Paris doesn't help much because it's a divisive team, a divisive club. So, of course, it attracts rumours, but I don't mind because I know what I'm doing and how I'm doing it."
The player also attacked the club's recruiters: “You have to talk to the people who make the team, who organize the workforce, who build this club. Me, I just try to do my job as well as possible. I scored about forty club goals (41), ten in selections (13).”
“I was the best player, top scorer for the fifth year in a row in Ligue 1. In the Champions League, unfortunately, I got injured before the first leg and, in the return, we were helpless.”
These statements annoyed several club players and six of them, including two summer recruits, decided to send a letter to management to complain about the behavior of Mbappé.
According to RMC Sports, this letter states that these statements would be "an insult to the club". Another scandal in the Mbappé 2023 soap opera, it seems.
According to RMC Sport, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi also found these remarks "shocking" and considers them as "a lack of respect for all current players, but also new players, the new coach or even all the fans."
As a reminder, Spanish coach Luis Enrique arrived this summer. The former La Roja and Barça coach won the 2015 Champions League with the Blaugrana club.
The mastermind is not PSG's only recruit this summer, and the capital club is very active on the transfer market.
PSG has formalized the arrivals of Manuel Ugarte, Lucas Hernandez, Milan Skriniar, Marco Asensio and Kang-In Lee and are rumored to be chasing Lyonnais Bradley Barcola. We'll see how that pans out in the coming weeks.
