Yves Bissouma robbed

Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma has been mugged by a group pretending to be fans, with the gang making off with his £250,000 (€293,000/$319,000) Richard Mille watch, according to The Sun.

Cannes

Bissouma and his girlfriend were reportedly checking into a luxury hotel in Cannes, France when the gang accosted them.

Posing as fans

Local police have reported the gang initially posed as fans, requesting a selfie from the Mali international, before tear-gassing Bissouma and his girlfriend.

Well organised

A local police source told The Sun, “They were clearly part of a very well organised gang… Both were waiting outside the hotel, and struck when the couple were dropped off by a chauffer-driven limousine at about 4am.”

Attempted refuge

Bissouma attempted to seek refuge in the five-star hotel he and his partner were planning to stay in, but the doors were locked, leaving him at the mercy of the robbers.

Returned to London

Per The Daily Express, Bissouma and his girlfriend planned on staying at least a few days in the South of France, but following the mugging returned to London within a few hours.

Club statement

Tottenham released a short statement on the matter, saying, “We are aware of the incident that took place and we will continue to check on the welfare of Yves and his family.”

Targeted

According to The Sun, attacks such as this are becoming more common in France, with multiple muggings occurring at the recent Cannes Film Festival. Gangs target luxury watches like the one Bissouma was wearing, as they are easy to sell on the secondary market.

Investigation

Local police are now opening an investigation into the robbery, with police and gendarmes hoping to catch those responsible.

CCTV

The Sun suggests any hope of catching the perpetrators hinges on CCTV from the hotel and surrounding areas that may have captured the getaway cars’ number plate.
