Newcastle fan in hospital following stabbing in Milan
A Newcastle United fan has been stabbed three times after travelling to Milan for Newcastle’s Champions League fixture against AC Milan.
Following the attack, the Newcastle fan was rushed to hospital where he was reported by the BBC to be in a stable condition.
Despite being stabbed three times, twice in the arm and once in the back, the Newcastle fan is set to be discharged from hospital on Tuesday, 19th of September.
The victim was out in the popular party area of Navigli when he was attacked with police being called at around midnight.
So far there are no reports of who perpetrated the attack, with Milan police saying, “The victim was with a friend and it is thought they encountered a group of seven/eight other people. It is not known if this group were Italian or foreigners.”
The police statement continued, “The state police have opened an investigation to try and discover exactly what happened, the motive and to find those responsible. Many Newcastle fans have arrived in the city of Milan and this is the only reported incident.”
Newcastle United have released a statement in which they said they were, “deeply concerned” with the incident and are in conversation with officials to understand what happened.
Newcastle also said, “Our thoughts are with the supporter and their family and we hope for a full and speedy recovery.”
