FA Cup final

The FA Cup comes to an end with the battle between champions Manchester City and Manchester United in the final on Saturday, 25 May - will City clinch the double, or will United surprise us?

Glory, glory…

We think Manchester United are going to win the FA Cup, redeeming themselves for a mostly miserable Premier League campaign and halting their cross-town rivals in the process. Let’s take a look at the reasons why!

History makers (or not)

If Manchester City win the FA Cup, they will become the first team in English history to complete back-to-back league and FA Cup doubles, per Give Me Sport. The weight of history is against the Cityzens, and United will happily capitalise.

Two-horse race

When United lift the trophy on the 25th May, they will have won their 13th FA Cup, just one behind the 14-time winners Arsenal. The next most successful team in the competition is Liverpool, with eight wins. If City pull off the impossible, they will match Liverpool’s total.

European football!

As per reporting by the Evening Standard, Manchester United will need to win the FA Cup to qualify for European football next season. A club of United’s size simply cannot fathom a season outside of continental competition, making their win inevitable!

Cornered animal

Per TeamTalk, Erik ten Hag’s future is very much in doubt, with new owner Jim Ratcliffe ready to swing the axe and bring in his own man. Would anyone doubt an insulted and wounded Erik ten Hag? We certainly don’t as we fully expect the Dutchman to pull out all the stops to claim victory.

Must be boring by now…

Another facet of the game that will play nicely into United’s hand will be City’s inevitable complacency. Having won everything there is to win in recent times and with a 6-1 aggregate score over United in the Premier League season, per the BBC, this feels like a classic banana skin game!

Form

Manchester United are coming off a huge two-game winning streak to finish their Premier League season and secure a top-half finish. Is there anything City can do to stop the Red Devils in this sort of form?

Valiant return

Manchester United have been rocked by defensive injuries in recent months but could have a near full-strength back four available for the Final. Ten Hag told reporters, “I think Harry Maguire, I think it's a fair chance that he will be available,” per the Evening Standard.

Pep’s dreaming of the beach

Pep Guardiola recently told reporters, “The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying [after next season],” per The Guardian. If that doesn’t reek of a man ready for a sun-lounger and some spicy margaritas, we’re not sure what does. Will United be able to capitalise on Pep’s longing for tapas by the sea?

It would be funny

There may be few people in the world more confident than us in Manchester United taking home the FA Cup next weekend, but despite our belief, even we can see the comedy value in ETH’s side winning given the circumstances!
