Man arrested following ex-NHL player Alex Johnson's death, manslaughter charges laid
A man has been arrested in connection with the death of Adam Johnson on suspicion of manslaughter following the death of Adam Johnson.
South Yorkshire Police are holding the suspect in custody following a post-mortem confirming the death was caused by a fatal neck injury.
Detective Chief Inspector Becs Horsfall said: “We have been carrying out extensive inquiries to piece together the events which led to the loss of Adam in these unprecedented circumstances”.
For now, the investigation is ongoing with police continuing to speak to, “highly specialized experts in their field to assist in our inquiries and continue to work closely with the health and safety department at Sheffield City Council”.
Manslaughter is a legal term in the UK meaning: “Where an unlawful killing is done without an intention to kill or to cause grievous bodily harm.”
Whilst South Yorkshire Police have called for the public not to speculate, there has been a portion of fans and pundits denouncing the actions leading to Johnson’s death, claiming the movement was deliberate and overly dangerous.
Johnson’s team at the time of the incident was the Nottingham Panthers, who described what happened as a “freak accident”.
Following the charges, the accused will now be held by South Yorkshire Police until the first available court date or until they are given police bail.
