Harry Kane moving to Germany?
Harry Kane has established himself as one of the best strikes in Europe over the past nine seasons, regularly scoring 25+ goals a season in the Premier League.
Karim Benzema has led the Madrid attack in recent years, scoring freely and helping the team to win the Champions League in 2022. The Balon d'Or winner is finally set to leave Los Blancos, as he is in the process of moving to Saudi Arabia.
Madrid are in the process of securing the signing of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund as they look to inject youth into their midfield. As part of their recruitment strategy, they are also looking strongly at bringing in Bellingham’s England captain, Harry Kane.
According to Guillem Balague, writing for the BBC, Real Madrid have a long list of strikers who could replace Benzema, but, “Harry Kane tops Real Madrid's wanted list”.
Tottenham are run by Daniel Levy, a businessman through and through who has a reputation for being a tough negotiator. They have supposedly set the price tag at around £132,000,000 (€153,344,400).
Kane signed a massive, six-year deal back in 2018, which has so far kept him at Tottenham, but the contract is set to expire next summer, leaving Spurs with a tough decision, sell now, or let him walk for free next year?
Archie Griggs of the Daily Express is reporting Madrid are set to open the bidding with a £68,000,000 (€78,995,600) bid, which falls way short of the valuation set by Spurs.
There are lots of rumours that even if Madrid could agree a fee for Kane, the player wouldn’t be interested in moving abroad. He is closing in on the all-time Premier League goal-scoring record and some claim he is happier staying in his home country.
The Englishman has previously stated, "I'd be lying if I said I didn't (want the Premier League record). I think if I get to the end and I haven't broke that record… I'd probably be a little disappointed in myself."
Back in 2020, Kane himself stated on Gary Nevilles, the Overlap, "Of course, there's always the option of maybe moving abroad one day but I don't think that really interests me in the near future." We just don’t know what ‘near future’ means for Kane.
Real Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos, has warned Kane “My advice to any player is don’t turn down the opportunity to play for Real Madrid – it is a special club who know how to win.”
Harry Kane is currently captain for club and country, coming off his best individual season in years and will be getting to work with the exciting Australian manager Ange Postecoglou, so why would he be looking to move?
As Sergio Ramos said, Madrid know how to win. Despite a rare trophyless season in 22/23, Madrid are regularly battling for La Liga and the Champions League. Kane is yet to win a single major trophy in his career, despite appearing in both a Champions League final and a Euros final with England.
Kane has given his all for Tottenham, and few could blame him if he did choose to move to Madrid. Even his teammate Pedro Porro said, “If Kane decides to go to Real Madrid we'll be as happy as he is or more.”
Whilst the links seem less concrete at the moment, rumours are swirling Erik ten Hag and Manchester United are also in for Kane. The Red Devils need a striker and it would allow Kane to stay in England and break the record, but winning trophies is a harder proposition for United than Madrid at the moment.
There have been whispers about Kane’s transfer for the past few seasons, but this year it seems more realistic he would go. Ultimately it is going to come down to Daniel Levy and the risk/reward of keeping him and letting him walk, or cashing in and using the funds for a rebuild. It certainly looks set for an exciting transfer season though!
