Does Chris Eubank Jr ruin the Eubank boxing legacy if he loses on Saturday?
Chris Eubank Jr. is fighting for his family's legacy on Saturday night as he takes on Liam Smith in a rematch after losing the first bout in January.
Eubank was stopped in the fourth round of the opening fight between the pair and claimed that Smith's win was a 'miracle.'
Since the opening fight in January, their rivalry has only intensified, with personal dislike growing and the pressure of someone's career falling off being at the forefront of their minds.
Eubank's loss was the third of his career after losing to George Groves by unanimous decision in 2018 and to Billy Joe Saunders in 2014.
Aged 33, Eubank Jr has never held a major world title, and a loss on Saturday could be the end of any run toward a title challenge.
According to espn.com, Eubank said: "My career is on the line. I've probably never had this amount of pressure on me."
Eubank has called out Gennadiy Golovkin and once been offered to fight him, but Eubank has still yet to threaten for a middleweight world title.
The British boxer now finds himself ranked number five with the WBC and unranked in the other major governing bodies.
If the boxer is to fail in beating Liam Smith on Saturday, Eubank can forget about winning a world title belt in the future.
The pressure for Eubank Jr to deliver a world title is more than most, with his dad, Eubank Sr, holding the WBO middleweight and super middleweight titles between 1990 and 1995.
With his Dad's domination of the division in the 1990s, Eubank Jr. has all the pressure to keep the family legacy going, and that starts on Saturday.
Liam Smith has enjoyed a superb rise in the later parts of his career after suffering losses to Magomed Kurbanov and Jaime Munguia.
Since those two losses, Smith has enjoyed four stoppage wins in his last four bouts, notably beating Liverpool rival Anthony Fowler and Eubank Jr in January.
Smith made two defenses of the WBO junior middleweight title in 2015 and 2016 and continues his rise to the main WBO belt.
Smith is ranked number three with the WBC and number two with the WBO, and WBO titleholder Janibek Alimkhanuly looks like the next step if he can beat Eubank again.
According to espn.com, Eubank is convinced Smith won't defeat him, saying: "I can't lose, with Liam being able to say he's a better fight than me."
