Farewell to legends: Athletes who tragically passed away in June 2024
In June 2024 we said goodbye to several legends from different sports. These athletes passed away last month.
Farewell to an NFL legend, as former Dallas Cowboys offensive guard Larry Allen passed away at 52, the Dallas Cowboys announced. Allen died unexpectedly on June 2 while on a holiday with his family.
June 2 also marked the death of rugby league legend Rob Burrow, who had been diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in 2019, per The Sun.

Parnelli Jones was an American racing legend who won the Indianapolis 500 in 1963. He died peacefully at home at the age of 90 on 4 June.
8 June marked the passing of basketball Hall of Famer Chet Walker. "His skill, dedication and contributions to the game made a lasting impact on the sport of basketball and the city of Chicago, Chet Walker will forever be remembered as a true Chicago Bulls icon," a Bulls statement read.
Another NBA icon, Jerry West, whose silhouette is believed to have been the basis for the NBA logo, died on 12 June.
Bolton and England legend Tommy Banks passed away aged 94, The Guardian reported. According to The Sun, Banks was the oldest living former England international before his death on 13 June.
Montenegro goalkeeper Matija Sarkic was just 26 and playing for Millwall when he collapsed suddenly at his flat on 15 June, according to local media.
Arsenal and Everton mourned the death of former striker Kevin Campbell (54), who died after a "short illness" on 15 June, according to The Guardian.
Connor Garden-Bachop was only 25 when he passed away on June 17. The Highlanders and Wellington outside back died following a "medical event", as New Zealand Rugby described it, per The Independent.
Baseball legend Willie Mays died on 18 June. The Giants announced his passing via a statement from Michael, his son.
Brazilian bodybuilder Cintia Goldani passed away unexpectedly in Porto Alegre, a few days after participating in 'MuscleContest Brazil'.

Cameroonian footballer Landry N'Guémo played in France, Turkey, Scotland and Denmark, but passed away in a road accident in his home country on 27 June.
Surfer Tamayo Perry died after a shark attack in Hawaii. He was only 49 years old.
Hawaiian wrestler Taylor Willy was also known for his acting. He died of unknown causes at the age of 56.
Former UEFA general secretary Gerhard Aigner passed away at the age of 80 on 20 June. To honour him, there was applause before the start of some Euro 2024 matches.
