Alyssa Healy sidelined after “gory” dog bite incident
Alyssa Healy, of the Sydney Sixers and Australia, suffered a dog bite at her home whilst trying to separate two fighting dogs.
The incident caused Healy to miss a game for the Sixers on Sunday, who were facing cross-town rivals, the Sydney Thunder.
Healy told press in Australia she was bitten as she tried to break apart two Staffordshire bull terriers when she was bitten on the hand.
Healy seemed to suggest her injury wasn’t too bad, saying, “The positive is there was no bone, tendon damage, or a rupture”.
The Aussie wicketkeeper-batter said, “I think there was an artery involved which probably made it look more like a crime scene than it needed to be. It was quite gory.”
The reason for Healhy’s absence was not immediately made public, with Australia teammate Phoebe Litchfield spilling the beans by saying, “It sounded like a pretty vicious dog attack, and I don't know if this is public, just a lacerated finger I'm pretty sure, so hopefully she's alright.”
Healy had to undergo surgery to repair any damage to her hand, but it seems the injury shouldn’t cause her to miss too much time.
Cricket Australia have said Healy is expected to miss the rest of the WBBL, a huge loss to her Sydney Sixers side
