Worst Hollywood movies?

They are called the Golden Raspberries, after the sound people make if they don't like something, but most of us know the awards as the Razzies. As the opposite of the Oscars, they are awarded for the worst films (and performances) in Hollywood. Here's a list of big 'winners' at the Razzies since 1981.

The question remains: Are these really the worst movies in Hollywood history?

1981: Can't Stop the Music

Their music was perfect for any party, but the Village People weren't very successful in the cinema. That's why they got two golden raspberries.

1982: Mommie Dearest

In 'Mommie Dearest,' Faye Dunaway played the great Joan Crawford, a Hollywood star with a (partially) tragic biography. The tragedy didn't work.

1983: Inchon!

A film about Douglas MacArthur's Korean War campaign with a romantic story in it. A strange combination and of little cinematic value.

1984: The Lonely Lady

'The Lonely Lady' is a forgotten adaptation of the bestseller by Harold Robbins.

1985: Bolero

A work in which Bo Derek could boast of a lack of cinematic substance.

1986: Rambo II - First Blood

Part I had some value, but this sequel to 'Rambo' was pure American propaganda, right in the middle of the conservative administration of Ronald Reagan.

1987: Howard the Duck

An incredibly bad movie adaptation of a Marvel comic. Still, 'Howard the Duck' has developed into a cult film over time.

1988: Bill Cosby - Leonard Part 6

Produced and written by Bill Cosby, who also starred. Nuff said.

1989: Cocktail

A guilty pleasure on all levels. Unfortunately, Tom Cruise and Elizabeth Shue didn't have as much chemistry as they should have.

1990: Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

...or how to turn a masterful television saga into a cinematic disaster.

1991: Ford Fairlane - Rock 'n' Roll Detective

A comedy that failed at the box office and was rejected by critics. Yet, it is a cult film in some circles.

1992: Hudson Hawk

'Hudson Hawk - The Master Thief' was a worldwide failure and received three Razzies.

1993: Shining Through

A Jewish secretary (Melanie Griffith) was sent to Germany for espionage purposes at the height of National Socialism. The film was not a success.

1994: Indecent Proposal

The critics found the story of a millionaire (Robert Redford) who offers a young woman (Demi Moore) one million dollars for a night together immoral.

1995: Color of Night

An extreme thriller where the lasciviousness didn't work. Critics complained about the very bad chemistry between the lead actors (one of them was, once again, Bruce Willis).

1996: Showgirls

Another masterpiece of cinema that ends up being fun, just because it's so pathetic.

1997: S t r i p t e a s e

Demi Moore stars in a kind of absurd replica of 'Showgirls' with one of the most insane scripts Hollywood has ever written.

1998: The Postman

With this flop, one of his biggest, Kevin Costner won five Golden Raspberry Awards.

1999: Burn Hollywood Burn

A comedy that (almost) nobody found funny.

2000: Wild Wild West

It has its fans, but this Western with fantasy elements was rejected by critics and most audiences.

2001: Battlefield Earth

Film adaptation of a science fiction novel by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of the Scientology sect, of which John Travolta is also a member.

2002: Freddy Got Fingered

This comedy got no less than five Golden Raspberries in 2002.

2003: Swept Away

Directed by her husbans, Guy Ritchie, Madonna won the Razzie in the category 'Worst Actress.'

2004: Gigli

At least they had love in real life. This romantic comedy with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez was not it.

2005: Catwoman

Directed by the Frenchman Pitof, it was disappointing to DC fans and non-fans alike.

2006: Dirty Love

This supposed comedy starred Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra.

2007: Basic Instinct 2

Sequels are rarely good - an adage that applies in this case.

2008: I Know Who Killed Me

'I Know Who Killed Me' was a film in which Lindsay Lohan showed her Hollywood career was over.

2009: The Love Guru

Mike Myers, Jessica Alba, Justin Timberlake and Ben Kingsley were there. They probably regret it.

2011: The Last Airbender

Not even M. Night Shyamalan (director of 'The Sixth Sense') could save this film.

2010: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

After this 'Transformers' film, Megan Fox bid farewell to the saga and criticized the tyrannical methods of its director, Michael Bay.

2012: Jack and Jill

One of Adam Sandler's worst films.

2013: Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2

This part of 'Twilight' didn't go over well. At least not with the Razzies jury. The fans of the saga continued to be delighted.

2014: Movie 43

16 storylines by different directors and with a very well-known cast: Uma Thurman, Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Kate Winslet... An ambitious but failed experiment.

2015: Saving Christmas

Kirk Cameron's comeback didn't go well.

2016 - Fifty Shades of Gray / Fantastic Four

Two very different films that have something in common: they are extremely bad.

2017: Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party

A militant documentary against Hillary Clinton.

2018: The Emoji Movie

Neither for children nor for adults.

2019: Holmes & Watson

A Sherlock Holmes adaptation, what could possibly go wrong? Well, actually, a lot.

2020: Cats

Possibly the worst costume and makeup experiment in Hollywood history.

2021: Absolute Proof

US politics is often critiqued in film and, in turn, by the awards the film receives. In the case of 'Absolute Proof,' not so good.

2022: Diana, the Musical

It just didn't work, this recording of the stage play about Princess Diana of Wales. The film got several Razzies, including 'worst' actress for lead, Jeanna de Waal (photo) and the 'worst' supporting actress, Judy Kaye.
