Rapper Lil Tjay (21) shot during a robbery

It all happened in The Promenade shopping center in Edgewater, New Jersey. Lil TJay was in a restaurant with two other friends when they were robbed.

As TMZ points out, the scene quickly escalated into violence and the attacker opened fire on the young Bronx rapper and his friends.

Lil TJay, whose real name is Tione Jayden Merritt, got the worst of it and, as confirmed by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, he was shot multiple times.

The rapper was rushed to hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

TMZ reports that everything went well but he is not out of danger yet, given the seriousness of the situation.

Antoine Boyd, one of Lil TJay's friends, also received the impact of one of the bullets during the incident, according to the authorities. Boyd was also taken to hospital.

Jeffrey Valdez, Lil TJay's other friend, was reportedly spared, according to TMZ.

The investigation of the facts worked wonderfully and, within a few hours, the police arrested the perpetrator of the shooting.

Mohamed Konate has been identified as the person responsible for shooting Lil TJay (photo) and his two friends, according to TMZ. He's already in the hands of justice.

The detainee has been charged with three counts of attempted murder.

In addition to these serious charges of robbery with a weapon and aggravated assault, Mohamed Konate could receive a very severe sentence.

Lil TJay's two friends have also been arrested, according to TMZ.

Antoine Boyd and Jeffrey Valdez had illegal weapons in their possession when the events occurred, for which they were charged with illegal possession of weapons.

Lil TJay, who has more than 7 million followers on Instagram despite only sharing three posts, has received an outpouring of support on social media.

French Montana, a close friend of the rapper, has requested on Twitter that everyone "Pray for my lil bro lil Tjay."
