Meet Lauren Sánchez, the woman by Jeff Bezos' side
After a high-profile divorce with billions of US dollars at stake, Amazon boss Jeff Bezos can finally enjoy life with his new partner, Lauren Sánchez. Some have even hinted at wedding plans in the new couple’s future. Who is Lauren Sánchez and how did she meet the richest man in the world?
Lauren Sánchez was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1969. She's from a humble family of Mexican ancestry. After finishing high school, Sánchez moved on to study Journalism and worked as a TV news reporter in Los Angeles and Phoenix. She really began to stand out as a journalist after joining Fox network.
An interesting bit of trivia about Lauren Sánchez is that she’s dyslexic, something she didn’t discover until her adult years. Reflecting back on it, she began to understand all the problems she faced in school growing up. "When I was young I just thought I was stupid", she told Hollywood Reporter.
As she gained fame, Lauren Sánchez became something of a symbol for the Latino Community in the United States. She was the first Hispanic woman to be a news anchor for Los Angeles’ Channel 13.
Sánchez covered sports at Fox, returned to Los Angeles’ Channel 13, won an Emmy in 1999, led the news program Good Day L.A. and hosted the dancing contest 'So You Think You Can Dance?' Quickly, she established a name for herself and began to rub shoulders with celebrities from the worlds of sports, cinema and television.
Lauren Sánchez’s father was an aircraft mechanic and she took up helicopter piloting. But flying is not only a hobby for her: Sánchez founded Black Ops Aviation, a company that specializes in aerial cinematography. Among other movies, Christopher Nolan’s spectacular war epic Dunkirk features some of her company's majestic visuals. Lauren Sánchez therefore has quite a lot of business acumen.
Lauren Sánchez’s former partner is NFL player Tony González. The couple had a son, Nikko, in 2001. She also had a relationship with celebrity agent Patrick Whitesell (photo), whom she married in 2005. They had two children: Evan and Ellen. Their relationship ended when Jeff Bezos came into the picture in 2019.
Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos were neighbours in the upscale part of Seattle where they used to live. They even hosted dinner parties with their respective partners at the time. It's not exactly known when the love between them came to blossom: Was it before or after Jeff Bezos’ separation from his wife? Only Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos know for sure.
In social events or while traveling, Jeff Bezos shows that he started a new life with Lauren Sánchez. The world’s top-grossing billionaire has changed and no longer (fully) hides his personal life.
Lauren Sánchez has two siblings: her brother Michael and her sister Elena. Michael Sánchez tends to overshare with the press and he’s the one who revealed the wedding plans between Lauren and Jeff. It was announced in a rather unconventional way: In a lawsuit for defamation filed against the founder of Amazon.
Beyond the sibling infighting, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchéz’s relationship continues with total normality. They frequent business parties and social gatherings with well-known figures such as Anne Wintour, the living icon of Vogue magazine.
The couple moved from rainy Seattle to a Beverly Hills mansion valued at 185 million USD. The property originally belonged to Jack Warner, the emblematic founder of Warner Bros.
With her humble past far behind her, Lauren Sánchez is now a celebrity who keeps her eye on the latest news of other celebrities, as made clear in this picture.
As many other celebrities, Lauren Sánchez has had small roles cameos in some series, such as 'Babylon 5', 'The Agency', 'Gotham Tonight', 'NCIS', among others.
Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos continue their lives together and are now a household name in California’s high society. Maybe they will marry under the Golden State’s bright sun. Or perhaps they are just happy enough as a loving couple. Only time will tell.
