Everybody Loves Raymond: where's the cast now?
The popular television show was created by Phillip Rosenthal and ran for 9 seasons starting in 1996. The show was nominated for 69 Emmy awards and won 15 Emmys over the years.
Centered around the Barone family, the comedy explored the life of Raymond and Debra Barone who were raising their family in New Jersey with their extended family living very, very close by.
Comedian Ray Romano portrayed Italian-American family man and sports writer Ray Barone whose sarcastic remarks and deadpan delivery garnered many laughs in each episode.
While playing Barone, Romano gave a master class in how to play a tormented husband trying and often failing to keep his wife and parents happy as they clash in daily situations.
Since the series ended, he has appeared in many film and television roles. One of his next projects is the upcoming film ‘Project Artemis’ which also stars Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum.
Patricia Heaton expertly portrayed Debra Barone as Raymond’s long-suffering and underappreciated wife. She existed in a world where her overbearing in-laws lived across the street and her mother-in-law found every opportunity to highlight her flaws.
Following her success on ‘Everybody Loves Raymond,’ Patricia Heaton starred in another successful sitcom called ‘The Middle’ which ran from 2009-2018. She also has four sons of her own and dedicates her time to World Vision as a Celebrity Ambassador.
Successful film and television actress Doris Roberts brought life to Ray's mother Marie Barone. Her character was sneaky, manipulative, and protective of her family.
Unfortunately, Doris Roberts passed away on April 17th, 2016, following a stroke. She enjoyed an enduring acting career lasting seven decades with projects even released posthumously.
Boyle played the role of Frank Barone, the grumpy, no-nonsense head of the family. While he had very rigid beliefs about masculinity and was overly critical of his sons. Frank would occasionally come to the defense of his family members showing a softer core.
On December 12th, 2006, Peter Boyle died from Multiple Myeloma and Heart Disease. It was less than two years after the beloved series ended.
As Robert Barone, Brad Garrett gave us the loveable, neurotic older brother of Raymond. The character was a police officer who lived with his parents. He suffered from feelings of envy toward his brother’s success in life and love, and the way his brother enjoyed being the favorite son.
Brad Garrett starred in the series ‘Til Death’ from 2006-2010. His baritone voice is easily recognized in such animated films as ‘Finding Dory’ and ‘Christopher Robin.’ He had a role in the comedy 'High Desert' in 2023, but it was not renewed for a second season.
Monica Horan, pictured here with husband and series creator Phillip Rosenthal, is known for her portrayal of Amy, the girlfriend and eventual wife of Robert Barone. Amy’s character displayed saintly levels of patience and understanding as she navigated the trials of dating and marrying a Barone.
Madylin was cast in the series when she was 5 years old. Her character was named after Ray Romano’s daughter Alexandra.
Madylin, who is now 31 years old, manages a theatre company called the ‘Loft Ensemble’ in North Hollywood, California, where her husband Sean Durrie is a company member.
Alongside their older sister Madylin, the twin brothers were cast on the show at the age of only 16 months. The pair played Raymond and Debra’s twin sons, Geoffrey and Michael.
Sadly, Sawyer Sweeten (pictured on the far left), took his own life in 2015. He was only 19 years old. His family and the cast of the show have felt this great loss. In 2019, ‘Sawyer’s Playhouse,’ a renovated theatre, was dedicated in his honor.
Two decades after the series finale, fans would love to see the cast reunite to share memories and highlights of the show. In a 2021 interview on SiriusXM's Pop Culture Spotlight with Jessica Shaw, series creator Phillip Rosenthal indicated that he was interested in a reunion show. However, at that point, there was no network interest.
