Country and camp galore at Trump's inauguration parties
The inauguration of Donald Trump as American president, on January 20, will be accompanied by a lot of music.
According to the schedule obtained by the Associated Press, Carrie Underwood, who won the fourth edition of 'American Idol' in 2005, will perform 'America the Beautiful' shortly before Trump takes the oath of office.
Although the singer did not announce her performance on social media, she did send a statement to Time magazine. "I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event."
Carrie Underwood is well aware that there is a lot of discussion surrounding the president-elect. So, she tells Time magazine: "I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future."
Another big name that makes an appearance is the Village People. The band is known for its songs 'In The Navy', 'Macho Man', and 'YMCA' which Trump often likes to play at his rallies. The group is performing live at one of the inaugural balls on Monday and at the Victory Rally a day before the swearing-in ceremony.
Like Underwood, the band also aims for the unity that music brings. "We know this [won't] make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics."
"Our song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost," the group continued, clearly indicating that Trump was not their favorite.
The Village People also believe their music can bring together both sides of the aisle. "We believe it's now time to bring the country together with music, which is why VILLAGE PEOPLE will be performing at various events as part of the 2025 Inauguration of Donald J. Trump," they concluded on Facebook.
At the Village People's last gig, the Liberty Ball on Monday evening, country singer Jason Aldean also takes the stage. He is known, among others, for the song 'Try that in a Small Town.'
The Village People's first performance is the Victory Rally on Sunday. There, they will be joined by Kid Rock, Billy Ray Cyrus (photo), and the choir of Liberty University, ABC reports.
Lee Greenwood is also present at the Victory Rally on Sunday. Greenwood added to Fox News that he will also sing 'God Bless the USA' before the inauguration on Monday.
Finally, New York tenor Christopher Macchio will sing the American anthem, 'The Star-Spangled Banner' at the end of the inauguration on Monday.
The inaugural committee released a four-day schedule of events centered around the swearing-in ceremony. In addition, both Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance will attend separate events.
This inauguration will have a different musical entourage from Trump's first. In 2017, the president featured the Rockettes, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and singer Jackie Evancho.
For their part, the Bidens continue the tradition of inviting the incoming president and his wife to tea. However, Melania Trump will be the only one to attend.
In 2021, the Trumps refused to comply with this ritual and even left the US capital before the inauguration. He missed performances by Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Garth Brooks, apart from, most importantly, the swearing-in of the 46th president, Joe Biden.
