'I'm a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world...'

A live-action film about the world-famous Barbie doll is a project that has been floating around Hollywood for a long time. Now it seems that Warner Bros. and Mattel are making it a reality.

Greta Gerwig at the helm

Greta Gerwig ('Lady Bird' and 'Little Women') directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Noah Baumbach.

Producer and star

The film will be produced by LuckyChap, Margot Robbie's company, which has produced hits such as 'I, Tonya' and 'Promising Young Woman.'

Why watch 'Barbie'? The cast!

If there is anything that can guarantee the success of 'Barbie' in cinemas is the spectacular cast that Greta Gerwig has at her disposal.

Margot Robbie

Of course. Twice nominated for Oscars for 'I, Tonya' (2017), and 'Bombshell' (2019), Robbie is a superstar. In addition, her role as Harley Quinn made her a household name among superhero-movie fans.

Ryan Gosling

Oscar-nominated for 'Half Nelson' (2006) and 'La La Land' (2016), he is one of Hollywood's most recognizable A-Listers, with titles such as 'Drive' (2011) and 'First Man' (2018) among his best works, though few have the same prestige as 'The Notebook' (2004).

Kate McKinnon

She was one of the most acclaimed comedians on 'SNL', from 2012 until recently she announced her resignation. McKinnon also made fabulous appearances in films, like 'Ghostbusters' (2016), 'Yesterday' (2019), and 'Bombshell' (2019).

Will Ferrell

'Zoolander' (2000), 'Elf' (2003), and 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' (2004) are just a few of his countless successes. A genius of humor.

America Ferrera

She played Betty Suarez in 'Ugly Betty' (2006-2010), shared trousers in 'The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' (2005), and she was Amy Sosa in 'Superstore' (2015-2021), among many other roles.

Rhea Perlman

Carla Tortelli is a television legend. Thanks to 'Cheers' (1982-1993), Rhea Perlman has been nominated ten times for Emmys, winning four of them.

Simu Liu

'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' (2021) has brought him Hollywood glory. He is also known for 'Kim's Convenience' and 'Pacific Rim' (2013).

Emma Mackey

Virtually unknown until Netflix saw her as the perfect Maeve Wiley for 'Sex Education' (2019-). She also appeared as an important character in 'Death on the Nile' (2022).

Michael Cera

He starred in 'Superbad' and 'Juno' in 2007. 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World' (2010) and 'Arrested Development' (2003-2013) are also on his long list of successes.

Ncuti Gatwa

Like his partner and friend Emma Mackey, his appearances prior to 'Sex Education' (2019) were limited to two episodic characters in 'Bob Servant' (2014) and 'Stonemouth' (2015). Eric Effiong has made him a star, however, and now he's propelling himself even further to glory as the new doctor in the BBC's legendary 'Doctor Who.'

Alexandra Shipp

She played Storm in 'X-Men: Apocalypse' (2016), Abby Suso in 'Love Simon' (2018), and Aaliyah in 'Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B'. A young, natural talent.

Scott Evans

Yes, he is the younger brother of Chris Evans and, although his career has not led him to save the world, he has appeared in series such as 'Fringe' (2008), 'White Collar' (2012), and 'Grace and Frankie' (2018).

Emerald Fennell

She was the director, screenwriter, and producer of 'Promising Young Woman' (2020), in which she also had a small role. She won the Oscar for Best Screenplay for the film. And perhaps you remember her as young Camilla Parker-Bowles in 'The Crown'?

Issa Rae

'Insecure': Issa Rae has played this character since 2016 and it is the role that brought her television glory. Now, on to the big screen!

Kingsley Ben-Adir

He played Malcolm X in 'One Night in Miami' (2020) which got him a series of awards and nominations. On television and streaming, he has been most prolific in 'Peaky Blinders' (2017) and 'The OA' (2019).

Hari Nef

Her most notable appearances have been in two recognizable series: 'Transparent' (2015) and 'You' (2018). Hari Nef combines acting with her work as a model and writer.

Connor Swindells

'Sex Education' (2019) delivered three actors to the Barbie film. Connor Swindells completes the trio. He also appeared in 'The Vanishing' (2019) and 'Emma' (2020).

Sharon Rooney

Rooney appeared in an episode of the BBC's legendary 'Sherlock' (2013) and has also had roles in films such as 'Dumbo' (2019) and 'The Electrical Life of Louis Wain' (2019).

Ariana Greenblatt

The youngest of the cast, she already has half a dozen projects under her belt. In fact, she was the young Gamora in 'Avengers: Infinity War' (2018) and she played Matilda, Gina Rodriguez's daughter, in 'Awake' (2021).

Ritu Arya

'Red Notice' (2021), the Netflix blockbuster, had her as Inspector Urvashi Das. On the same streaming platform, she also appeared in 'The Umbrella Academy' (2020) as Lila Pitts.

Jamie Demetriou

'The Afterparty' (2022) and 'Borderline' (2016) are some of his most prominent roles. However, none of these were like his Bus Rodent in 'Fleabag' (2016).
