If dark comedy is your thing, you will love 'Call Me Fitz.' This Canadian television series is available on HBO and stars Canadian-American actor Jason Priestley (known for Beverly Hills 90210). Priestley plays a used-car salesman with questionable morals whose life changes drastically when a do-gooder (played by Ernie Grunwald) comes into his life claiming to be his conscience. Check it out if you are in need of a good laugh!

'Trailer Park Boys' has been around for years and is a mainstay in many Canadian homes. The show is a mockumentary created by Mike Clattenburg, which documents residents' escapades in a trailer park located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The series ran for seven seasons, and a young Elliot Page even makes an appearance for a few episodes. If you check it out on Netflix and decide you need more 'Trailer Park Boys' in your life, you can check out their movies too: 'The Movie,' 'Countdown to Liquor Day,' and 'Don't Legalize It.'

Tune into Prime to watch the Canadian espionage drama, 'Fortunate Son.' The show, filmed in Calgary, features actors such as Kari Matchett and Stephen Moyer ('True Blood'). It is loosely based on Mary Cox's story, the mother of the co-executive producer of the show, Tom Cox. Mary Cox helped draft-dodgers from the States get across the border and into Canada during the Vietnam War.

This sitcom, created by and starring Andrew Phung ('Kim's Corner'), also features actors Rahee Morzaria and Zoriah Wong. The show focuses on Andrew's character, Andrew Pham who is in a new stage of life as a stay-at-home dad while his wife is busy running her own business. The show shows the hilarious struggles of Pham as he handles the hurdles of suburb life with kids.

Currently the show is only availble on CBC GEM but hopefully it will be reaching other platforms soon.

'Children Ruin Everything' is a sitcom created by Kurt Smeaton that star Mikayla Swaminathan, Meaghan Rath, and Aaron Abrams. It tells the story of a couple struggling with parenting and losing themselves along the way. Parents Astrid and James try to revive their old dreams and prove that you don't have to give up your other interests when you become parents.

'Anne with an E' is a Canadian Netflix series based on Lucy Maud Montgomery's children's book 'Anne of Green Gables.' Whether you've heard of the classic children's book or not, this charming historical series will steal your heart. Starring Amybeth McNulty as Anne, alongside actors Geraldine James, R.H Thomson, Dalila Bela, and Lucas Jade Zumann, the cast will pull you into Lucy Maud Mongomery's tale, and you won't want to stop watching.

This Canadian miniseries is based on Margaret Atwood's 1996 novel and is available on Netflix. It was written by famed Canadian Sarah Polley (remember 'Road to Avonlea'?) and directed by fellow Canadian Mary Harron ('Psyco' and 'Who Shot Andy Warhol'). The case includes well-known actors such as Sarah Gadon, David Cronenberg, Paul Gross, and Anna Paquin.

This Canadian family drama series is available on Prime, and it is the longest one-hour scripted drama in Canadian television history. Based on the 'Heartland' books by Lauren Brooke, the show tells the story of Amy Fleming and her sister Louise as they live their life on the family ranch in Alberta. The starring roles are all held by Canadians: Amber Marshall, Michelle Morgan, Shaun Johnston, Alisha Newton, and Chris Potter. This one is definitely worth a try; after all, there must be fourteen seasons for a reason!

'Kim's Convenience' is available on Netflix, and this Canadian sitcom doesn't disappoint. It gives a look into the life of a Korean Canadian family that runs a convenience store in Toronto. The show features stars Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Jean Yoon, Andrea Bang, and Simu Liu. With four seasons under its belt, the show was renewed for two more seasons in 2020.

'Sanctuary' is available on Amazon Prime and is a Canadian science fiction-fantasy television series. Created by Damian Kindler and starring British-Canadian actor Amanda Tapping ('Stargate'), the show follows Dr. Helen Magnus, founder of the "Sanctuary Network" on her quest to protect legends, people, and animals with extraordinary abilities and powers.

'Schitt's Creek' is a highly acclaimed (and awarded) Canadian sitcom on Netflix. It was created by father and son Eugene and Dan Levy who imagined how a rich family, as typically shown on sitcoms, would react if they lost all their money. It tells Rose and her family's story as they go through difficult times after losing their family fortune and need to relocate to Schitt's Creek. The show stars Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Dan Levy, and Annie Murphy, and if you give it a go, you will surely get hooked!

Although 'Sensitive Skin' was only around for two seasons, this black comedy is intriguing. Kim Cattrall of 'Sex and the City' stars in the series and is also an executive producer. This Canadian show, filmed in Toronto, tells the story of a woman in her 50s who moves from the suburbs to downtown Toronto with her neurotic husband. The dark comedy examines the difficulties women go through as they age, but with a touch of dark humor. 'Sensitive Skin' is available on HBO.

If historical-drama is up your alley, you need to watch Netflix's Frontier. This series is based on the fur trade in North America in the late 1700s in Canada. Another reason you'll want to check it out is that it stars hottie Jason Momoa as an Irish/Cree outlaw attempting to break the Hudson's Bay Company's monopoly on the Canadian fur trade.

'Less Than Kind' is an award-winning comedy-drama series available on HBO, starring Jesse Camacho alongside Maury Chaykin, Wendel Meldrum, and Nancy Sorel. It follows the story of Sheldon Blecher, a teen growing up with his dysfunctional Jewish family in Winnipeg. The show won the 'Canadian Comedy Awards' in 2009 and 2010, so it is definitely worth looking into if you need a new show to give you a laugh.

If you are looking to practice your French skills, you should watch the French-Canadian series 'Can You Hear Me?' or 'M'entends-tu?'. This Netflix series filmed on location in Montreal, Quebec, tells the story of best friends living in a low-income area of the city. Starring Ève Landry and Florence Longpré, the series follows the pair through their challenges with boys and their families, with plenty of humor along the way.

'Total Drama' is an animated comedy series from Canada which is available on Netflix. The show is a satire of reality shows, inspired by shows like 'Survivor.' The premise is a group of teenagers who develop relationships with one another while competing in a fictional reality show. This hilarious and edgy show has won over critics and has a cult following, so it should be added to your must-watch list.

Netflix's 'The Indian Detective' is a must-see for Russell Peters fans; heck, it is a must-see for anyone who just needs a good belly laugh! This Canadian crime comedy-drama series is about Doug D'Mello (played by Peters), a Torontonian police officer who gets wrapped up in a murder investigation while visiting his father in India. The show ends on a cliffhanger, and Peters has stated that they are working on a second season, although there hasn't been an official announcement yet.

For viewers looking for something a little different, check out 'Wynonna Earp,' based on Beau Smith's comic book. This Canadian-American production is a supernatural Western horror series that will hook you from the start. Melanie Scrofano stars as the great-great-granddaughter of famous lawman Wyatt Earp. The series focuses on the challenges Wynonna faces as she battles the reincarnated outlaws that killed Wyatt.

'The Kids in the Hall' is a Canadian sketch comedy show. The comedian troupe Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson are hilarious and will have you cracking up. The series originally aired from 1988-1995 but has aged well and is still very funny. The 'Kids' have made a comeback with new episodes on Prime, featuring all the original actors, and is the first Canadian Amazon Original series. The first series can be watched on HBO.

Starring Catherine Reitman, Jessalyn Wanlim, Dani Kind, and Juno Rinaldi, the series shows the challenges of being a working mother. The relatable situations the characters find themselves in are humorous and engaging, making this show totally binge-worthy!
