President Joe Biden might have performed terribly during his debate with Donald Trump on June 27th but his poor showing hasn’t stopped Democratic donors from sending the Biden campaign cold hard cash.

Calls for Biden to step down post-debate

Calls for Biden to step down as the 2024 Democratic presidential candidate have been circulating in headlines since Biden went head-to-head with Trump but Biden’s stumbles and mistakes during the debate didn't sway some away from his cause.

Donors showed their support with money

Just one day after the debate, the Biden campaign announced it had raised $14 million dollars and reported, according to Reuters, that the hour that followed the debate was the best single hour of fundraising since launching his campaign in April 2023.

Biden raised $33 million in about three days

By June 30th, the Biden campaign revealed in an email that the President had brought in $33 million in donations since the debate, $26 million of which reached the campaign’s coffers from grassroots donations according to The Hill.

Most of the donations were grassroots giving

Even more astonishing was the revelation from a campaign official that nearly half of the grassroots donations came from first-time donors in the 2024 election cycle, which may show that many voters aren’t being swayed by the rhetoric around Biden’s performance.

Biden is bringing in a lot of recurring donations

Biden also brought in more recurring donations in 2024 than he was back in 2020, and what the President has raised post-debate is far higher than what the Trump campaign was able to muster after the former president’s alleged win.

Trump only brought in $8 million on debate night

Between the debate and June 29th, the Biden campaign saw $27 million dollars in donations while the Trump campaign said that it only saw $8 million in donations on the day of the debate according to reporting from The Hill.

Biden addressed his poor performance

Despite calls that Biden should be replaced as the 2024 Democratic presidential candidate, several prominent Democrats have come out in support of the President and Biden himself has addressed his poor debate performance during a June 28th rally.

“I don’t debate as well as I used to”

“Folks, I don’t walk as easy as I used to. I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to,” Biden told a crowd of supporters at a campaign rally held in North Carolina.

“I know how to tell the truth”

“But I know what I do know,” Biden continued. “I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. And I know how to do this job. I know how to get things done. And I know what millions of Americans know: When you get knocked down, you get back up.”

Biden has the money to swing back

With $33 million in cash raised since the debate, Biden might just have the money that he needs to get back up and take another big swing at Trump and shift the momentum of the 2024 election back in his favor.
