Stars who knew each other before they became famous

Many friendships between Hollywood stars are born during the shooting of a film or TV show, but there are also celebrity friendships that existed even before the stars became internationally famous.

Some of these friendships were born in distant childhood, others in high school, and still others during the first years of the job when those now-famous actors and actresses were still complete strangers. Click further to see which celebrities already knew each other before becoming stars.

The first duo we will talk about is the one formed by Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire. The two met towards the end of the 80s. As DiCaprio commented in Far Out Magazine, he was in the car with his mother, coming home from school, when he noticed Tobey walking on the sidewalk. As he recalls, Leo recognized the young, beginning actor, got out of the car, and shouted to get Tobey's attention. He asked for his phone number and the rest is history.

DiCaprio's words give a good idea of the kind of longstanding friendship they have. The two also worked together on 'The Great Gatsby' (2013).

Courtney Love and Drew Barrymore are also linked by a strong friendship that has lasted for many years.

The Hole singer and widow of Kurt Cobain met the Hollywood actress when they were both very young. The friendship was so strong that Courtney chose Drew Barrymore as the godmother for Frances Bean, her daughter with Kurt Cobain (in August 1992).

Friends both on and off set, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have shared many successes during their incredible Hollywood careers.

Damon and Affleck used to live in the same neighborhood and attended the same high school. After a few years apart, the two reunited to write a screenplay together: 'Good Will Hunting' (1997). They both acted in the film (alongside an incredible Robin Williams), they won the Oscar for best original screenplay, and the two were set for life in Hollywood

Celebrities who know each other from before they became famous include Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and actor/comedian Jonah Hill.

The two see themselves as brothers. Their parents have known each other forever and Adam naturally invited his friend Jonah to his wedding. The duo even started a band in high school together. Imagine, Jonah Hill could have been in Maroon 5!

The friendship between Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling began when they were still children. The two participated in the Disney program 'The All New Mickey Mouse Club.'

Their friendship was such that Ryan Gosling's mother left her son at the Timberlake home during a period when she was living in Canada for work.

Actress Cameron Diaz and rapper Snoop Dogg also share a past that not everyone knows about.

The 'Charlie's Angels' actress and the hip-hop star went to the same high school: Long Beach Polytechnic High School, California. Which means they go way back.

Daughters of artists (remember that Kate Hudson is the daughter of Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, while Liv Tyler of the famous Aerosmith singer, Steven Tyler), the two actresses have known each other since childhood.

They have always frequented the same social events and became friends from an early age. Professionally, they starred together in 'Dr. T and the Women' (2000).

Towards the end of the 90s, another famous duo of friends was about to be born. They were the very young Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato.

The two singers and actresses got to know each other on the set of 'Barney,' a children's television program. At the time, they weren't very famous yet. However, even since they reached celebrity status, the two have always remained close.

The two Hollywood stars met when they were high school students. However, they didn't meet in school but during an audition.

Naomi and Nicole went to audition for an Australian swimwear brand. They had a click and have been inseparable ever since.

This famous duo of actors accumulated one success after another during their respective careers: Johnny Depp and Nicolas Cage.

In many interviews, for example in the 'David Letterman Show' in 2013, Johnny Depp has stated that he got his first audition as an actor thanks to his friend Nicolas Cage.
