Jack?! You'll never guess how much the infamous 'Titanic' floating door prop sold for

It's been 30 years since the release of 'Titanic,' and the debate over whether Jack could have fit on the door that Rose laid on as the ship sank continues to spark fierce arguments.

It goes without saying that this door is a piece of movie history, and its role in the Oscar-winning film was arguably greater than Billy Zane's Cal Hockley. So the question stands: How much would you fork out for the actual door used in the movie?

Well, you might want to sit down for this: the iconic door was sold on March 23, 2024, for a staggering $718,750.

This piece of wood, upon which Kate Winslet spent hours filming, was auctioned off in the 'Treasures from Planet Hollywood' event by Heritage Auctions and fetched an eye-watering price.

t's clear this auction was a blockbuster, with the door achieving the highest bid. In contrast, the purple and pink chiffon dress worn by Rose during the sinking scenes was sold for a considerable but less eye-watering $125,000.

Clearly, for collectors, the door, along with the 'Heart of the Ocean' necklace, ranks as one of the most iconic item from one of the biggest movies in Hollywood history.

Now, that doesn’t make it any easier to explain why someone shelled out over $700,000 for a piece of wood.

For a bit of perspective, Harrison Ford’s whip from 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' snagged $525,000 at auction. Meanwhile, Jack Nicholson’s axe from 'The Shining' fetched $125,000.

The 'Titanic' door is clearly meant to stir up debate. While for nearly three decades the argument has revolved around whether Jack could have fit on it, now the conversation might shift to who would shell out $718,750 for it and who wouldn’t.

By the way, for those in the 'yes, I would buy it' camp, if anyone wants to purchase it from its current owner, it may be possible to pay $900,000 to snag it.
