Mark your calendar! The most important events of 2023

Each year brings moments and appointments that fill our agenda; some are events we will always remember. Undoubtedly 2023 will be filled with ups and downs and, hopefully, plenty of exciting moments we will never forget.

Pope Benedict XVI passed away on December 31, 2022, and his funeral was held on Thursday, January 5, in Saint Peter's Square at the Vatican, making it one of the first significant events of 2023.

Charles ascended to the British throne after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022. Still, the coronation of King Charles III will be formalized on May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey. It will undoubtedly be one of the events that all Brits will remember from 2023.

The opera singer with Greek roots, María Callas, known as "La Divina", was born in New York on December 2, 1923. Callas was one of the most renowned opera singers in history, and in 2023 it will have been a century since her birth.

The most famous horror movie of all time, 'The Exorcist' by William Friedkin, turns 50 this 2023, and, to celebrate, a 'reboot' will be released on Friday, October 13, 2023.

2023 will be a year to honour the famous painter Pablo Picasso. 2023 marks 50 years since Picasso's death, and a multitude of exhibitions, conferences and colloquiums honouring the Spanish artist will take place around the world.

April 4, 2023 is an important date for the film company Warner Bros, which celebrates its 100th anniversary. Warner Bros/Discovery has announced “Celebrating Every Story,” kicking off a campaign to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Warner Bros. studio.

The Men's Basketball World Cup will be held from August 25 to September 10 this year. Where? In the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia. Spain, the current champion, will have to defend the title against powers like the United States, Slovenia or Argentina.

In 2023 the world political landscape could change completely due to the electoral processes that will take place in countries such as Turkey, Pakistan, Estonia, Spain, Argentina, Nigeria or the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The LXVII edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will be held from May 9 to 13. And it will be special one since on this occasion the venue cannot be in the winning country of the last edition, Ukraine. This time it will be held by the second place winner, the United Kingdom. The Spanish painter Joaquín Sorolla passed away on August 10, 1923. One hundred years after his death, his legacy is very much alive and to remember him and his priceless work, there will be different events and exhibitions in various museums, such as the Prado in Madrid or Joaquín Sorolla's own museum, which will show three unpublished paintings acquired by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Spain.

This summer, from July 20 to August 20, the FIFA Women's World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand. The United States National Team will defend the title.

The XX World Swimming Championships will take place between July 14 and 30, 2023 in the Japanese city of Fukuoka and will include competitions in swimming, artistic swimming, diving, high jumping, open water swimming and water polo.

The Sydney Opera House, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is one of Australia's biggest tourist attractions. It was inaugurated on October 20, 1973 by Queen Elizabeth II, so in 2023 it celebrates its 50th birthday.

The United Arab Emirates will host COP28 in 2023, which will try to evaluate the progress and measures taken regarding climate change. When? From November 30 to December 12.
