Belgium tops the heartbreak charts

According to 'Business Insider', Belgium is the world leader in divorce rates, hitting a staggering 71% based on 2023 data.

Trailing closely behind are Portugal, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, three countries where the divorce rate hits 65%.

Meanwhile, Spain takes the fifth spot with a divorce rate of 61%.

The concept of love has changed

Yes, in all these countries, there are more marriages that end in separation than those that last a lifetime. Times have changed, and eternal love has become harder to find... or fight for.

On the other end of the spectrum, we find Chile, with a meager divorce rate of just 3%.

If we switch our gaze to global divorce statistics, it's the United States that heads this dubious competition of disillusionment, with just over 630,500 divorces in 2020, according to Statista data.

But to put it in perspective, the percentage of legal separations in the United States is slightly above 50%.

Normalization

Russia occupies the second place in the total number of divorces, with more than 564,700 separations, while Germany, in third place, had just over 143,800 broken couples, according to the data.
