Very hard news

Dave Coulier, famous for playing Uncle Joey on 'Full House', revealed in December 2024 that he has cancer.

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma stage 3

It was the 65-year-old actor himself who confirmed the shocking news to 'People' magazine, detailing that in October he was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer that begins in the lymphatic system. When categorizing tumors, the most serious grade is stage 4.

It all started with a cold

Dave Coulier explained that he first noticed the symptoms after a cold, although he had previously noticed that the lymph nodes in his neck and armpits were more swollen than usual.

From a cold to cancer

"I went from, I got a little bit of a head cold to I have cancer, and it was pretty overwhelming. This has been a really fast roller coaster ride of a journey," the actor described to 'People'.

Improvement in expectations

However, after carrying out all kinds of tests, doctors have verified that it has not reached the bone marrow, so the curability rate is over 90%, according to the actor himself.

From almost nothing to 90%

"At that point, my chances of curable went from something low to 90% range. And so that was a great day," the performer says.

Six sessions of chemo

To get it to go into remission, the actor is undergoing chemotherapy and, as he explained, he will have to undergo six sessions, every 21 days, until finishing the treatment in February 2025.

Finish chemo and... grandpa!

If all goes well, Dave Coulier could celebrate the end of his treatment while also welcoming his first grandchild. His son Luc will be a father in March 2025.

Shaved hair

Coulier has shaved his head as a precautionary measure. Perhaps, in the 80s, when he still had a long, luscious mane, he would have thought about it a bit harder.

Complicated genetic inheritance

The harsh reality is that Dave Coulier's mother, sister, and niece have all died of breast cancer. As the actor revealed, it is a disease that, unfortunately, is well-known in the family.

Examples to follow

"I saw what those women in my family went through, and I thought to myself, 'If I can be just 1/10th of a percent as strong as they were, then I'm going to be just fine.'" In fact, his older sister Karen also went through cancer and is now one of his biggest supporters.

Making his cancer visible

Dave Coulier intends to discuss his illness on his podcast 'Full House Rewind'. He wants to raise awareness about cancer. "I’m going to meet this head-on, and I want people to know it’s my life. I'm not going to try and hide anything. I would rather talk about it and open the discussion and inspire people," he concludes.
