Donald Trump has a contentious relationship with the Latino community in the United States. Recently, statements released by a former White House aide reveal a disdain for this community that goes beyond what was expected.

Former White House Chief of Staff

Retired General John Kelly held several positions during the Trump administration, including White House Chief of Staff. However, Kelly's relationship with his former employer is not the best.

Trump's admiration for Hitler

Kelly, in an interview with The Atlantic , revealed that Trump confessed to admiring Adolf Hitler, wondering why he couldn't have generals like the former German dictator.

The president and the soldier

The former White House Chief of Staff also recounted Trump's reaction to the murder of Vanessa Guillén, a US soldier of Mexican origin.

Murder at Fort Hood

Guillén was killed on April 22, 2020 by Aaron Robinson, another soldier serving with Guillén at Fort Hood, Texas, who later took his own life when police attempted to arrest him.

Fatal outcome

Robinson and his girlfriend, Cecily Aguilar, allegedly killed Guillén to hide their relationship, since Aguilar was married to another soldier. The Mexican-American soldier was only 20 years old.

The presidential promise

CNN reports that Trump offered to pay for Guillén's funeral. In this photo, the then-US president can be seen with the deceased soldier's mother.

'A f---ing Mexican'

However, Trump was furious when he received the bill for US$60,000. According to The Atlantic, he declared: “It doesn’t cost sixty thousand dollars to bury a f---ing Mexican!”

Not paying the bill

CNN reported that Trump had retracted his offer to cover Guillén's funeral expenses, claiming that he was being scammed with the bill.

Trump's team denies everything

So far, spokespeople associated with Trump's presidential campaign have denied that the former president and current Republican candidate made those comments.

Latinos for Trump

The New York Times revealed in an October survey that between 37% and 40% of Latino men plan to vote for Donald Trump and that the Republican candidate's anti-immigration rhetoric has not resulted in more votes for Harris.
