You probably haven't heard of the most powerful member of the Trump family
It's no secret that Donald Trump likes to keep his family close and involved in his business, even if that business is running the country. However, you probably don't know its most influential member.
It’s a possibility you haven’t heard of Lana Trump until recently. Believe it or not, she might be the second most important Trump, after The Donald himself, her father-in-law.
Born Lara Yunaska, this former Fox News television producer married Eric Trump in 2014. However, she’s far more than just a trophy wife.
On March 2024, Lara Trump was unanimously voted to become the co-chair of the Republican National Committee, in a maneuver described in USA Today as completing Donald Trump’s full takeover of the GOP.
“My No. 1 goal is making sure that Donald Trump is the 47th president,” declared The RNC co-chair to AP News.
“It kind of suggests an expectation of complete, unabashed and, perhaps, a blind loyalty to the candidate,” said Marc Racicot, a former RNC chair, to AP News.
Indeed, many people fear if this truly means that the Republican Party is solely the party of Donald Trump and his family. In other words, a blind loyalty towards the New York mogul while silencing or putting aside any critics or rivals within the GOP.
If you have any doubts of the concerning turn the Republican Party is making, look no further than the fight between the GOP co-chair and former Republican Maryland governor Larry Hogan.
Hogan, who is running for senator, posted on X (formerly Twitter) a call for civility and urged Americans of every political stripe to respect the ruling of the Stormy Daniels trial, regardless of the outcome.
“At this dangerously divided moment in our history, all leaders — regardless of party — must not pour fuel on the fire with more toxic partisanship”, Hogan wrote online. A few moments later, Donald Trump was convicted on 34 charges, and the Maryland politician had condemned himself.
“He doesn’t deserve the respect of anyone in the Republican Party at this point, and quite frankly, anybody in America, if that’s the way you feel”, Lara Trump blasted against Hogan, during a CNN interview.
Lana Trump then refused to answer whether the GOP would continue supporting Hogan in the Maryland senator race, virtually conceding the seat to the Democratic Party.
According to The New York Times, this is just the latest indication that loyalty to Donald Trump has become more important than anything else.
The Republican Party is one of the oldest continuous political parties in the world, founded by Abraham Lincoln. However, many people are asking themselves if they will manage to survive Donald Trump.
