Trump's conviction opens battle: Greene seeks to strip NY of federal funds
Greene has a had a lot to say, but in one of her most recent postings on X, she made a very bold statement: she said that New York should no longer receive ANY federal funding.
Greene wrote, "NO Federal funding to New York! I’m calling for it!!! New York needs to drop their conviction of Pres Trump! The whole thing was illegal! Republicans should not vote to fund a single penny to that corrupt state."
But that is just the tip of the iceberg, it all started of course with her initial reactionary post after Donald Trump was found guilty in the Stormy Daniels hush money trial.
Following the announcement of Donald Trump's conviction, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene posted a picture of an upside-down flag on her X account.
The upside-down flag, originally a sign of protest, has turned into one of the symbols of the "Stop the Steal" movement and was brandished by MAGA supporters during the January 6 Capitol riot.
What does it mean when an American flag is hung upside down?
MTG is one of Trump's biggest supporters, so it is no surprise she shared some harsh words about the former president's conviction on social media.
In a post on X, Greene wrote, "Joe Biden's campaign orchestrated a rally outside of the courthouse in New York City supporting a potential conviction of President Trump."
Greene continued, "This case has been rigged from the start and we all knew it. This isn't a prosecution, it's a persecution. We must end the weaponization of government in America. This is what happens in third world countries!"
Marjorie Taylor Greene also had much to say about Trump's guilty verdict on Instagram. First, she told her fellow MAGA supporters that the jury's decision would have no effect on her vote in November.
Greene wrote, "I'll be voting for President Trump on November 5th whether he is a free man or a prisoner of the Biden regime. My support for President Trump has never been stronger! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
A few hours later, MTG used her social media accounts to accuse Judge Merchan, the judge in the hush money case, of being corrupt, writing, "Judge Merchan should have recused himself from the very beginning from these sham trials! His daughter's firm, Authentic Campaigns, is fundraising and profiting from her father's sham trial."
She then continued, "Here are examples from Adam Schiff, House Majority PAC and Defend the Senate — all major Dem organizations — fundraising from the Trump trial. What is the percentage Loren Merchan's firm gets to keep?"
Back on X, Greene spoke about the rage of the American people and insulted Stormy Daniels, writing, "I have not seen one person interviewed on the major networks tonight that has appropriately expressed the American people's rage and disgust about Trump being convicted. Y'all have no idea how people truly feel about this. This is not good."
The congresswoman continued digging into Daniels, "Kaitlin Collins is talking about Stormy Daniels being offended in court by Trump's words. Stormy Daniels makes a living having sex on video, she's a nasty p o r n o grapher. She's not offended by anything at all."
Greene then added, "The American people are OFFENDED by all of this and everyone involved and they are MOST OFFENDED by people who sit on the sidelines and do NOTHING to stop it."
Prior to the announcement of the guilty verdict in Trump's trial, Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote on X that if Trump were to be convicted, it would only fuel more votes for him in November.
On May 30th, Greene wrote, "I've been saying from the beginning. We will vote for President Donald J Trump even if he's in jail. A wrongful conviction will bring a landslide for Trump, and prove to America, Democrats are the party of corruption, communism, and tyrants. Go ahead, pull the curtain back."
The scary thing is that MTG might be right. Many Americans may buy into the MAGA rhetoric and see Trump's conviction as yet another motive to give him their vote, to fight against the "corruption" of America. We will just have to wait and see if those voters who are undecided are swayed by the MAGA movement.
