Four-time golf major champion Rory McIlroy looks in better spirits than ever as he sets out to win his elusive fifth major at the US Open on the 13th of June.

Rekindle the marriage

The Guardian reports the divorce petition he filed in a Florida court last month has been voluntarily dismissed, with McIlroy and his wife Erica Stoll expected to rekindle their seven-year marriage.

Amanda Balionis

The Northern Irishman announced he was divorcing his wife before the PGA Championship, sparking rumors he was in a relationship with CBS reporter Amanda Balionis.

The speculation

The New York Post reported that the rumors started after the pair's interview at the Wells Fargo Championship at the beginning of May. McIlroy announced his divorce straight after the interview, causing a frenzy of speculation.

A professional relationship

US Weekly confirmed McIlroy and Balionis have a professional relationship, and the speculation was false. The golf superstar left his comments on the matter in the build-up to the US Open.

"A fool's game"

McIlroy said: "There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumor is a fool's game."

"Resolved our differences"

"Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning."

Ending his drought

With a strong family connection back around him, McIlroy will come into the US Open hoping he can end his ten-year drought that stretches back to August 2014.

Playing with champions

The Northern Irishman couldn't have better company in the opening two rounds, playing with 2024 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler and 2024 PGA Champion Xander Schauffele.

Is now the perfect time?

After killing the speculation about his private life and rekindling his marriage, is the 2024 US Open the perfect time to win his fifth major championship?
