Saying goodbye to the 2022 World Cup

The most important soccer event, the Qatar 2022 World Cup, has started! The international competition is a fantastic showcase for players who hope to obtain more significant club contracts or establish themselves as stars.

Stars that will not shine in Qatar

Sadly, not every star has a chance to participate in the World Cup. Several highly-expected players will not make it due to injuries. Here is a list of relevant absentees.

Karim Benzema (France)

This was meant to be the last World Cup for the 35-year-old Real Madrid team captain. However, just a few days before the opening ceremony, the French Football Federation revealed that the striker will miss out due to a thigh injury that requires surgical intervention.

Jose Gaya (Spain)

This was meant to be the first world cup for this Spanish defender for Valencia F.C. but a sprain on his right ankle during a training session. He has been replaced by Alejandro Balde.

Christopher Nkunku (France)

The RB Leipzig forward has been ruled out of the World Cup after he tore a knee ligament during training. The injury was more serious than it was originally assumed and French sports daily L'Équipe reports that it will take 8 to 10 weeks for Nkunku to recover.

Paul Pogba (France)

Pogba was part of the team that won the 2018 World Cup. The talented midfielder had a meniscus injury. He had surgery last summer, but a relapse has unfortunately made it impossible for him to play during the 2022 World Cup.

Reece James (England)

Reece James was one of the mainstays of a promising England national team, but a strained ligament has benched him for two months. Chelsea's right-back will not play in Qatar. Luckily, he is young and will have other opportunities, but his fans and peers will miss him.

Alexander Isak (Sweden)

Ibrahimovic's relief in the Swedish national team injured his right thigh shortly after debuting with a goal for Newcastle. The club's coach, Eddie Howe, announced that Isak would not be able to play until after the World Cup. He was in the run to become one of the best strikers in the world.

N'Golo Kante (France)

The French pivot will not play in the World Cup. A painful hamstring injury in his right leg left the Chelsea player on the bench and his national team, the current world champion, without their center midfield engine.

Diogo Jota (Portugal)

Diogo Jota injured his calf while playing against Manchester City. The Liverpool player will miss the World Cup, as confirmed by his coach, Jürgen Klopp. Those were bad news for the highly-expected player.

Boubacar Kamara (France)

The potent Aston Villa midfielder has sustained an injury in his knee ligaments since mid-September. He knew from that moment that he would miss the 2022 World Cup.

Georginio Wijnaldum (Netherlands)

The Roma midfielder fractured his tibia in August. That complicated injury left him out for nearly the whole season and definitely out of the World Cup.

Sergi Roberto (Spain)

The FC Barcelona wild card dislocated his left shoulder during a league match against Bilbao's Athletic Club. His team won 4 - 0, but he will be out of the field until the end of the year.

Jesus Corona 'Tecatito' (Mexico)

The skillful Sevilla striker fractured the fibula and ankle ligaments in his left leg and will be out of the field of play until 2023. A sensitive loss for the Tri.

Pedro Neto (Portugal)

At 22, the Wolverhampton Wanderers winger was aiming to shine in Qatar, but an untimely ankle injury during a Premier League match against West Ham United denied him that chance.

Joao Rojas (Ecuador)

Gustavo Alfaro, the Ecuadorian selector, directly ruled out the Orense Sporting Club winger. Rojas tore a ligament in the middle of summer.

Arthur Melo (Brazil)

Luck is not on the side of the promising Juventud midfielder, currently loaned to Liverpool. A thigh injury, produced in a Champions League match against Rangers, will leave him out of the big championship.

Tarik Tissoudali (Morocco)

The Moroccan striker tore his right knee's anterior cruciate ligament in July. Tissoudali led his national team to qualification. One of the team's heroes will miss the international championship.

Mauro Arambarri (Uruguay)

The Getafe midfielder is a sensitive loss for Uruguay's national team, but an ankle injury will keep him off the field for four months. The team can't count on him.

Richarlison de Andrade (Brazil)

The Tottenham striker taped out in a match against Everton on October 15. He then left the stadium crying and on crutches, aware that the discomfort in his left calf was a misfortune. The player might still attend the championship, but it is uncertain whether he will play any matches.

Ronald Araújo (Uruguay)

FC Barcelona's star central defender ruptured a tendon in his right leg in a match with Uruguay's national team. It was during the FIFA International Friendlies season. To prevent further damage, he chose to undergo surgery. Even though he will travel to Qatar, he won't play, barring a miracle.
