England batsman Harry Brook has become the fastest player to hit 1000 runs in balls faced, overtaking Colin de Grandhomme.

Comeback?

Brook hit 75 runs off 93 balls on the final day at Headingley, becoming the catalyst for England's comeback victory, taking Australia's lead to 2-1.

Pulling his weight

Brook has amassed 210 runs in three Tests at an average of 35 runs. He has hit two half-centuries and finished his game-winning knock-on Sunday with nine boundaries.

New deal?

According to Mail Sport, Brook is set to be offered England's first multi-year contract in October after his heroic display at Yorkshire Cricket Ground.

A priority

Since Ben Stokes has retired from One-Day International cricket, Brook is the only player guaranteed to start in all three formats of the sport for England.

Offensive style

Over the last 12 months, Harry Brook has excelled with the bat, showing an offensive approach and hitting significant runs off very few balls.

Players he beat

Since Brook became the fastest player to hit 1000 runs in the fewest balls, let's look at the players he beat to achieve that record!

Ben Duckett (1168 balls)

England opener completed his 1000 Test runs just last week in the Ashes second Test, reaching the feat in 1168 balls. In the first innings, he scored 98 off 134 balls, and in the second inning, he scored 83 off 112 to help him reach 1000.

Consistent

Duckett has scored two centuries and seven fifties, with a best score of 182 against Ireland in 2023. Despite his excellence, Brook has beat him out on the record.

Tim Southee (1167 balls)

Tim Southee, in a batting record, will come as a shock to cricket fans, with Southee being one of the greatest bowlers of his generation, becoming the first New Zealand player to take over 700 wickets.

Doing it all

Despite his incredible success as a bowler, Southee has been handy with the bat for New Zealand, knocking his first 1000 runs in just 1167 balls for the Kiwis.

Colin de Grandhomme (1140 balls)

The man who held the record for a long time was New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme, hitting his 1000 in 1140 balls, including a maiden century against the West Indies in 2017 in just 71 balls.

Perfect all rounder

Between 2016-2022, Grandhomme scored eight fifties and two hundred's, with his best score being 120 against South Africa.

Harry Brook (1058 balls)

After his impressive performance at the weekend, Harry Brook smashed the record by nearly 100 balls, showing his attack-minded style at the crease.

Third fewest innings

Brook also completed his 1000 runs in the third-fewest innings (17), behind Len Hutton (16) and Herbert Sutcliffe (12).

Ashes

England will be hoping Brook and Duckett can continue their aggressive style of batting as they approach the fourth Test at Old Trafford next week.
