“Fire your barber”

Mike Magee, who played with Donovan at LA Galaxy, attempted to rescue his former teammate, sharing screenshots of the pair’s text messages on X. Magee wrote, “LD check Twitter asap and prob fire your barber.”

“Where were you?”

Donovan found the funny side of the issue, replying, “Where were you seven hours ago? Had a hair transplant procedure two weeks ago and was told it wouldn't show up on camera.”

“Deserved”

The pair’s conversation concluded with Magee asking the former Everton striker if he could share the texts, to which Donovan replied, “It's what I deserve.”

Hard to ignore

For those watching Fox Sports’ coverage, it was hard to ignore Donovan’s hair, with various patches obviously shorter than others.

US Legend

The US has started to produce more and more talented male footballers in recent years, with players like Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic making waves for some of the biggest clubs in Europe, before them, Donovan was comfortably America’s greatest men’s player.

LA Galaxy

Donovan spent most of his career at LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer, where he appeared in 310 games, scoring 136 times and assisting 101 goals, per Transfermarkt.

Forever a Toffee

The former LA Galaxy man also spent time in the Premier League, playing 22 games for Everton across two stints, scoring twice and adding nine assists.
