Strong underdogs

The Spanish team under the leadership of Luis de la Fuente secured their first three points against Croatia, in their first game at Euro 2024. Originally, the Spanish team was not considered a favourite to win the tournament, but more of a 'strong' underdog. Now they lead group B alongside Italy, the current defending champion.

Good goals but lack of concentration

The Spanish national team put in a scary performance against Croatia, with goals from Morata, Fabian, and Carvajal. 'La Roja' lacked possession, made fewer passes, and even conceded a penalty. Nevertheless, they still managed to keep a clean sheet.

Leaders of Group B

Three extremely valuable points in what is known as the 'group of death' with Spain, Italy, Croatia, and Albania.

New strategies

So will Spain win the Euro 2024? There are reasons to be optimistic as 'La Roja' is proving to be a very fluid team, capable of adapting to different situations on the pitch. Historically, Spain would suffer when they wouldn't control possession, but now the team has moulded its strategies.

Wing play

Luis de la Fuente proposes high-pressure, vertical plays and a lot of wing play in order to maximize the great qualities of Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal.

Always Morata

Then there is Alvaro Morata, Spain's number '9', who needs very little to score a goal. He is the third all-time top scorer in the competition, after Platini (9 goals) and Cristiano Ronaldo (14 goals), according to Transfermarkt.

One of the best

The Atlético de Madrid forward always seems to perform well with the Spanish national team. Morata is the fourth top scorer, with 36 goals, behind Fernando Torres and Raúl, according to Transfermarkt.

Unexpected MVP

Fabian Ruiz has surprised fans with his great quality and self-confidence on the pitch. He was the author of Morata's assist and Spain's second goal. Ruiz was given the man of the match trophy.

Yamal-Carvajal Connection

The Yamal-Carvajal connection down the right wing has been lethal. Yamal (16 years old) and Carvajal (32 years old) have clicked extremely well with each other, as if they both played together for years. Yamal served Carvajal with a great ball to score the third goal of the match. What a duo!

Unai Simon under the net

The Spanish goalkeeper, Unai Simon, is also considered a world-class keeper regardless of his occasional slip-ups here and there, as we saw against Croatia.

De La Fuente has a plan

Although 'La Roja' is not labelled as the clear favourite, the Spanish underdogs have a chance to snatch away a historic title if they reach the final. It would be their fourth Euro title in their history... Time will tell. Let us know what you think in the comments!
