Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Zack Morris from 'Saved by the Bell' - Where is he now?
If you were born in the 80s, how can you not remember Mark-Paul Gosselaar? His name alone awakens a lot of nostalgia. And if we add to that the nickname Zack Morris, we have a full-fledged reunion with the past. What has this teenager been up to since he was causing a ruckus at Bayside High School?
Mark-Paul participated in a few series in 1986, but it wasn't until his role in the TV series "Saved by the Bell", which aired from 1989 to 1993, that he really got his big break, achieving stardom.
The public fell head over heels for his hunky teenage character, Zack Morris, who was the charming, adorable, and true troublemaker of the fictional Bayside High School.
'Saved by the Bell' was undoubtedly one of the most popular series of the '90s, catapulting Mark-Paul, and the rest of the cast, to huge fame.
Gosselaar was among the talented company in the series, with actors like Mario Lopez, Dustin Diamond, Tiffani Amber Thiessen, Elizabeth Berkley, and Lark Voorhies getting their big breaks from the show.
The TV series seemed to be one of the first to really hook the 'on-again, off-again love story' that would play out in so many future series. (Think Rachael and Ross on 'Friends.')
Zack Morris and his high school sweetheart, Kelly Kapowski, spent seasons with their "on-and-off" love story, and the public ate it up.
The show eventually had a spin-off reunion movie in 1994, 'Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas,' where the high-school sweethearts finally tied the knot, spoiler alert! To be fair, the title sort of gave it away.
While in front of the camera, Zack and Kelly were the hot topics, behind the camera, it was a totally different story...
Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Elizabeth Berkley were actually dating in real life at the time, which Mark-Paul would later confess to the public. Berkley played the character of Jessie Spano throughout the series.
ABC News reported that producer Peter Engel told of the teenage cast: "Everybody dated everybody else... except for Screech." Referring to the character Samuel 'Screech' Powers, played by actor Dustin Diamond, who passed away in 2021 from lung cancer.
Here Mark-Paul is seen with fellow actor and friend Mario Lopez, who played AC Slater in 'Saved by the Bell,' with whom he has maintained a tight relationship with over the years.
Mark-Paul has been very consistent over the years with one thing, changing his looks. We have seen him beardless, and with a beard; with shaved hair, and here as a platinum blonde in 'Beer Money' (2001).
Whether it be the demands of his script or his fashion choice of the day, he really does love to change his exterior shell. Seen here in 1998 in 'Dead Man On Campus.'
Mark-Paul took on a really different look for FOX's series 'Pitch,' from 2016-2017, which was unfortunately canceled after one season.
In 2018, Mark-Paul cleaned up from the field to play a leading role in FOX's series 'The Passage,' which was unfortunately canceled as well after one season.
Mark-Paul was cast as Detective John Clark, Jr. in 'NYPD Blue,' working from 2001-2005 on the famed TV cop show.
Despite the fact that he hasn't held as big of a spotlight as he did as a teenager, Mark-Paul Gosselaar has consistently kept his momentum in Hollywood following his child star days.
And between work and more work, Mark-Paul Gosselaar loves to schedule in a multitude of sports: from golf to baseball, running, and more.
What about his biggest passion? It's actually not acting...but car racing! Here he is pictured at the 19th Annual Toyota Pro/Celebrity Grand Prix, which took place on March 28, 1995, in Long Beach, California.
Mark-Paul Gosselaar married Lisa Ann Russell in 1996, having two children together, their son Michael Charles and daughter Ava Lorenn. They divorced in 2010.
In 2012, he made it official again. Remarrying after finding love with his partner Catriona McGinn, with whom he also had two children, Dekker Edward and Lachlyn Hope.
Time passes for everyone, sadly not excluding 90s heartthrob Mark-Paul Gosselaar. But there will always be those who cannot help but want to keep him as he was back in the days of Zack Morris and Bayside High.
