Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Morticia Addams in Netflix's 'Wednesday'

Catherine Zeta-Jones is back! We haven't seen the actress on screen since her last job as Vicki Ellis in the movie 'Queen America' (2018). So fans are thrilled that  Catherine Zeta-Jones is starring in the series 'Wednesday' as Morticia Addams.

Catherine Zeta-Jones plays the mother of the Addams family in an adaptation of the terrifying family of monsters directed by Tim Burton. The series, released on Netflix in November 2022, revolves around the character of Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega.

Catherine Zeta-Jones has had a long career and an eventful life. How much do you really know about her?

The daughter of a candy factory employee and a dressmaker of Irish and Welsh origin, she has two brothers (David and Lyndon), with whom she shared a profoundly Catholic upbringing.

She studied music and dance from a very young age and was even part of a religious singing and theater group with which she achieved great success when she was only ten years old. Her parents named the actress after her two grandmothers, Catherine and Zeta.

Her first steps as an actress were taken in the eighties in the world of theater, appearing in works such as 'Annie' (1981), 'Bugsy Malone' (1983), or '42nd Street' (1987).

Slowly Catherine began to be known in the United Kingdom and entered the world of television with the series 'The Darling Buds of May' (1991).

It was a time when she mixed small roles on television and theater, including commercials. Her first film, '1001 Nights' (1990), also made her known on the big screen.

In 1998, eight years after her first film, Catherine Zeta-Jones made the definitive leap in her career as a film actress with 'The Mask of Zorro', directed by Martin Campbell. She shared the limelight with actor Antonio Banderas.

In this film, the Welsh actress played the role of Elena de la Vega, the hero's daughter kidnapped by the evil governor Don Rafael Montero. It would be the first of a good handful of significant roles that led to Catherine's success in Hollywood.

Catherine Zeta-Jones's filmography includes almost forty films, including titles such as: 'Entrapment' (1999), along with Sean Connery; 'The Haunting' (1999); 'High Fidelity' (2000); 'Traffic' (2000), with which she established herself as a dramatic actress under the direction of Steven Soderbergh.

Later, in 'America's Sweethearts' (2001), she shared the screen with Julia Roberts; and then there was 'Chicago' (2002), for which she was awarded multiple awards. Finally, we must not forget in 2004 'The Terminal' and 'Oceans Twelve,' among many others.

Catherine's career peaked in 2002 with the film 'Chicago,' the musical film directed by Rob Marshall. Thanks to this film, Catherine Zeta-Jones reached the highest point in her career, winning an Oscar for best-supporting actress for her role as Velma Kelly. That same role would earn her a BAFTA and two Screen Actors Guild awards.

Twenty years after she played Mae Jones in the play 'Street Scene' (1989), in 2009, Catherine Zeta-Jones was back on the stage. And in a big way - on Broadway and alongside the legendary Angela Lansbury.

Catherine made her debut in New York, playing the role of Desirée in 'A Little Night Music,' work with great critical and public success with which the actress won the Tony Award for best musical actress.

Catherine Zeta-Jones married veteran actor Michael Douglas on November 18, 2000. Douglas has been the love of her life, with whom she has been for 22 years now and with whom she has a 25 years age difference to the day since they both have their birthday on September 25.

The couple met in 1998 at a festival promoting 'The Mask of Zorro'. Douglas got off to a bad start by saying, “You know, I'm going to be the father of your children.” In the end, she forgave him for being so forward, and that phrase became a reality.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have two children together: Dylan and Carys Douglas, who came to the world in 2000 and 2003, respectively. They raised their two young children in Bermuda before taking up residence in New York City.

In fact, Michael actually admitted that his throat cancer was caused by an STI he acquired due to his sex addiction. Catherine was also struggling with depression and bipolar disorder. However, with the assistance of therapy, by January 2014, the couple was back together.

In 2011, prior to her relationship crisis with Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones told the world about the significant health problem she has had to deal with in her life: bipolar disorder.

The actress was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder, which led her to be admitted to a hospital up to two times. The disorder can strike at any point in life and can be brought on by repeated stress, something that Catherine had a lot of as she dealt with Michael's cancer and a dispute with his ex-wife over the proceeds of the 'Wall Street' movie sequel.

The Australian magazine New Idea told a bizarre story about Catherine Zeta-Jones in which she had an affair with none other than Prince Charles of England.

This supposed romance took place between 1992 and 1994 and was a strategy of Queen Elizabeth II to separate her son from Camilla Parker Bowles. And what better way than to do it with a rising star like Catherine, who at that time stood out on the show 'The Darling Buds of May'.

In 2010, Queen Elizabeth II recognized Catherine Zeta-Jones with the title of 'Commander of the British Empire.'

The title was in acknowledgment of Catherine's great work as an actress in the world of cinema and for the solidarity initiatives that the actress has carried out in parallel with her work. This title, which the actress was quite proud of, is delivered by the monarch on her birthday annually to different people of interest.

Catherine and Michael are great fans of the world of golf, and it is common to see them practicing this sport. The couple normally play twice a week either alone or with friends - once they even played with Michael's father, Kirk Douglas!

The duo loves their hobby so much that they have their own celebrity tournament called 'Michael Douglas and Friends,' that the proceeds of which go to different types of charities.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas also love to vacation on the beautiful island of Mallorca. The couple has a 1,000 square meter, ten bedroom, ten bathroom home with a gym, spa, and wine cellars on a 77-hectare plot with an orchard in Valldemossa, in the heart of the Sierra de Tramontana (Mallorca). Making Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas a common sight on the tiny Spanish island.
