They got injured shooting a scene but carried on filming

Hollywood can be dangerous, especially when actors and actresses film action scenes in which their health or even lives are at stake. It's happened quite a few times that stars suffer accidents and injuries during filming. Here are some examples of actors who did not let that interfere with their work...

One of the most curious and well-known aspects of Tom Cruise's career as an actor is that he has always wanted to play his own action scenes without stunt doubles. That decision has had its consequences: in the filming of 'Mission Impossible Fallout', he broke his leg while shooting a scene in which he jumped from one building to another.

She seemed to be giving the performance of her life, but in reality, she was risking her life. In a scene from the movie 'Now You See Me,' Isla Fisher's character Henley Reeves tries to escape from a tank full of water. While filming it, the actress got stuck and was unable to get out. As a result, she nearly drowned. Fisher was lucky that the one person who realized what was really going on, a stuntman, got her out on time.

In an action movie featuring the toughest guys in the world, Jason Statham could not be absent. Unfortunately, the actor nearly drowned in a high-stakes scene where he had to jump into a lake. After his jump, he was semi-conscious and began to take in water. Fortunately, the staff managed to rescue him before the worst happened.

Han Solo, even as a veteran, is one of the best characters Harrison Ford has ever played. When he last appeared on the mythical Millennium Falcon in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', disaster struck. A door closed on the actor's leg and broke it.

The crucifixion of Jesus Christ was a terrible spectacle, and the filming of that scene with Jim Caviezel also had its share of pain. In one of the most spectacular scenes in the film, the actor dislocated his shoulder while carrying the cross. Not only that, Jim Caviezel was actually whipped, suffered hypothermia and pneumonia from another scene and, to top it all, was also struck by lightning.

Tom Holland returned to 'Infinity War' in one of his greatest roles, that of the masked superhero Spiderman. However, while filming the movie, his nose was broken by a strong blow. Still, Holland continued filming.

While filming 'The Mummy,' the American actor suffered a very serious accident that almost cost him his life. Fraser filmed a scene in which his character was hanged, and he actually suffocated until he lost consciousness. The film crew acted quickly so that, fortunately, the accident did not end in tragedy.

In her role as Bridget von Hammersmark, Diane Kruger had to shoot a scene in which Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) strangled her. She ended the shoot asphyxiated and unconscious. The reality is that Waltz had nothing to do with that scene, but that director Quentin Tarantino himself actually played the strangler (with only his hands in the shot). He allegedly did not trust the actor to do it the way he wanted. Legend or reality?

Anecdotes of this type with Quentin Tarantino do not end there. During the filming of 'Kill Bill II', the American director pressured Uma Thurman into doing a dangerous scene with a car, even though she was unsure about it. While filming the scene, Thurman risked her life in an accident. As a consequence, the two stars did not speak to each other for a long time.

Another Quentin Tarantino movie, but this time the incident had nothing to do with the director. Leonardo DiCaprio was so engaged in his role as Monsieur Calvin J. Candie that he cut his hand, requiring several stitches. The accident happened when he hit a table and broke a glass in the process. DiCaprio continued as if nothing had happened and finished what was an already legendary scene.

In one of the best war movies in history, 'Apocalypse Now', there was also the occasional accident. For example, Martin Sheen, in one of the first scenes of the film, smashed a mirror with a punch, causing several cuts to his knuckles. It was done in a moment of pure realism. Moreover, as the team commented, he did not even realize he had cut himself, because he was apparently quite drunk during the scene.

The actress who played the Witch of the West in 'The Wizard of Oz', was laid low for six weeks from filming after suffering several second and third-degree burns to her face and hands. The terrible accident was caused by a failure in a hatch, failing to open, in a scene featuring smoke and fireworks.

Brad Pitt had an accident in both of these movies. In 'Seven', he broke his arm in a fall after jumping from a ladder to catch a villain. Yet, Pitt continued filming. The second accident, in 'Troy', gave realism to the scene as the actor's face expressed real pain. Interestingly, as he was playing the role of Achilles, he broke his Achilles' heel in the final battle of the movie.

In a scene from 'Aeon Flux' in which she was doing a series of cartwheels, Charlize Theron hit her neck, injuring one of the discs in her spine. According to the actress herself, "the injury scared me," and since then she has been very careful about what to do and what not to do in the films she has made. "I don't need to do those things," she said.

In the second instalment of the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, Viggo Mortensen, who plays the role of Aragorn, broke his toes after hitting a metal helmet. It was an improvised act within a fighting scene of the film. The cry of "rage" that Mortensen gave in his performance was actually a cry of pain from the fracture.

Like Tom Cruise, Jackie Chan is famous for doing his own action scenes. Throughout his career he has suffered numerous injuries, but in his autobiography the actor explained that the worst of all - marking him for life - was the one he suffered in the movie 'Armor of God'. A perfectionist like no one else, Jackie repeated a scene jumping from a wall to a tree, but bad luck struck in that second shot when the branch on which he landed broke. He fell five meters into the void. The actor fractured his skull and his brain was punctured. He had to be operated on urgently and, as a result of that, he lost part of his hearing.

In an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, actress Jennifer Lawrence said she injured her ear in a scene from 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.' As she recalls, "I got all of these ear infections from the diving and the water and all of that stuff. And then a jet from one of the cornucopia scenes punctured my eardrum." It left her deaf for several months.

After a scene with Dolph Lundgren - Ivan Drago in the movie - Sylvester Stallone ended up eight days in intensive care. Stallone asked Lundgren to make one of the scenes they were playing more realistic by staging a real fight. Bad luck caused the blond giant to hit Stallone so hard that he broke his sternum.

Following a scene that he shot in the movie 'Syriana', George Clooney suffered so much that he even thought about taking his own life, as he explained on NPR. During the scene, he was getting beaten while sitting in a chair, and at some point he was kicked so hard that he fell over. Clooney hit his head and ripped his dura (the spinal wrap), leaving him in the hospital without mobility. Clooney directly left the set of 'Syriana' which was a few days from completion. He'd later win an Oscar for his role.
