The strange cause of death of Lisa Marie Presley
Months after the famous daughter of Elvis Presley suddenly passed away on January 12, 2023, her cause of death has been released. It was a condition no one had thought of before.
According to the autopsy report obtained by NBC News, the cardiac arrest of Lisa Marie Presley was the indirect consequence of a bariatric surgery years ago. Without telling her friends, Page Six reports, the star had undergone weight-loss surgery a few years before her death.
As BBC reports, the bowel obstruction of which Lisa Marie Presley died in 2023 "was a result of adhesions caused by weight-loss surgery she underwent several years ago." It was a rare, long-term complication of the procedure. The timing and intensity of the consequences - Lisa Marie's death - were not foreseen.
It is ironic that Lisa Marie Presley died of cardiac arrest related to a weight treatment issue. Her father's cardiac arrest at age 42, The Independent suggests, was also caused by weight issues - but the other way around. Elvis died of, among other things, an unhealthy diet. He had an estimated weight of 158kg (350 pounds) at the time of his collapse.
According to Lisa Marie Presley's toxicology report, several opioids were in her system. They included Oxycodone, Buprenorphine, and Quetiapine. However, these substances were considered "therapeutic levels" and did not contribute to the death of the star.
In January 2023, alarms went off in the world of showbiz when it became known that Lisa Marie Presley had been rushed to a hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest. Only two days before the collapse, the 54-year-old daughter of Elvis Presley appeared at the Golden Globes gala.
Lisa Marie Presley was at her home in Los Angeles with her ex-husband, Danny Keough when she suffered cardiac arrest. Keough performed CPR on her until paramedics arrived.
The paramedics managed to restore her pulse and transfer her to the hospital, Lisa Marie's mother Priscilla Presley told her followers through social media. At that time, it seemed like Presley's daughter was going to make it.
"My beloved daughter Lisa Marie was rushed to the hospital. She is now receiving the best care. Please keep her and our family in your prayers," she wrote.

Priscilla added: "We feel the prayers from around the world and ask for privacy at this time." However, after that message, Lisa Marie's mother didn't update her social media anymore.
Within a few hours of her collapse, Priscilla Presley's representative sent a statement to TMZ informing them of the death of Lisa Marie Presley.
"Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie," Graceland tweeted.
Just 48 hours earlier, Lisa Marie Presley had been celebrating with her mother, Priscilla Presley, and with 'Elvis' actor Austin Butler. The young actor had received a Golden Globe for playing her father, Elvis Presley.
Lisa Marie Presley was Elvis Presley's only daughter and the heir of the legacy that the King of Rock 'n' Roll continues to be to this day.
In fact, until 2005, Lisa Marie Presley managed 'Elvis Presley Enterprises'.' She then sold it for $75 million.
Lisa Marie did maintain ownership of Graceland, however. In Elvis Presley's famous Memphis property, she received hundreds of thousands of visitors a year.
In addition, Lisa Marie Presley went on to release three albums as a singer between 2003 and 2012, with relative success.
In fact, the first, 'To Whom It May Concern' (2003) reached number 5 on the Billboard 100.
In her personal life, Lisa Marie Presley accumulated four marriages. All of them failed: First Danny Keough, then Michael Jackson, Nicolas Cage, and Michael Lockwood.
Lisa Marie had two especially curious relationships. One with Michael Jackson, which barely lasted two years; and the other with Nicolas Cage, which lasted 100 days.
Lisa Marie Presley is survived by three daughters: the well-known actress Riley Keough and the twins Harper Vivienne Ann and Finley Aaron Love Lockwood.
Lisa Marie Presley had a fourth son, Benjamin Keough (pictured right), but he passed away in the most tragic way in July 2020. The young man shot himself in the same home in Los Angeles where the singer would later suffer her heart attack.
After giving birth to the twins, Lisa Marie Presley began taking opiates to alleviate the pain of childbirth. This was meant to be a temporary solution, but it ended up becoming a prolonged addiction, as she herself confessed to People magazine in 2018.
The unexpected death of her son in 2020 left Lisa Marie Presley devastated. The last thing she ever posted on her social media was in August 2022, referring to her deceased son. As one would hope, she has now joined both her son and her father.

One of her ex-husbands, the actor Nicolas Cage, gave an emotional statement to E! News. "Lisa had the greatest laugh of anyone I ever met. She lit up every room, and I am heartbroken. I find some solace in believing she is reunited with her son Benjamin."
John Travolta shared a photo of Lisa Marie on his Instagram page with the following message "Lisa baby girl, I’m so sorry. I’ll miss you but I know I’ll see you again. My love and heart goes out to Riley, Priscilla, Harper and Finley."
The legendary actress and singer also expressed her sadness about the unexpected news. "Dear God, #LisaMariePresley has died; I’m in shock. So beautiful and only 54 years old; I can’t actually comprehend it," she posted on Twitter.
