It all happened in the quiet town of Cape Vincent. Mary Mara was staying at her sister's summer home, according to the New York State Police.

According to TMZ, Mary Mara had gone out to exercise. The next news they heard from her was that her body had been found lifeless in the St. Lawrence river.

On Sunday June 26, the New York State Police responded to the call that a body had been found in the river. It turned out to be Mary Mara's. At first sight, it showed no signs of violence.
The police assume that the actress drowned while swimming in the river. Her body was transferred to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. No traces of drugs were found.

In a statement published by Variety, Mary Mara's manager Craig Dorfman confirmed the actress' death.

"Mary was one of the finest actresses I've ever met. I still remember seeing her onstage in 1992 in Mad Forest Off-Broadway. She was electric, funny and a true individual. Everyone loved her. She will be missed," said Craig Dorfman.
