Sister of Stefanie Sun cuts ties with the Singaporean singer
Stefanie Sun is a famous Singaporean musician celebrated for her contributions to Chinese music. Her sister's announcement in January 2024 that she was cutting ties with the singer and making accusations against her came as a surprise to many.
Stephanie Sun's 2000s hits made her a C-pop icon. She is famous for her Mandarin and Hokkien Chinese songs. She is one of Singapore's most famous Chinese musicians, along with JJ Lin and Kit Chan.
Stefanie Sun was born in Singapore on July 23, 1978, to a university professor and vocational school lecturer. Sina stated that her father inspired her to pursue music. She has two other sisters.
According to the same Sina report, Stefanie Sun not only dabbled in music at the age of five by playing the piano, but she was also a talented performer as a child, having sung on stage at the tender age of ten and earning the British Royal Amateur Grade 8 Piano Diploma.

According to Stefanie Sun's National Library Board biography, she enrolled in the Lee Wei Song School of Music before attending university, where she caught the attention of the school's founders, Paul Lee Wei Song and Peter Lee Si Song, both Chinese music industry elites.

Stefanie Sun's talent took her far, according to the Straits Times, and she also caught the attention of the visiting chairman of Warner Music Taiwan while attending the Lee Wei Song School of Music.
The same report from The Straits Times noted that Warner Music Taiwan then offered Stefanie Sun a debut opportunity, but it was put on hold until she finished university as her father wanted her to finish up with her studies before embarking on her music career.

Since then, Stefanie Sun went on to release seven albums until she decided to take a hiatus from music in 2003, at the peak of her career with several music awards and sales records under her belt, to form her own music production and management company, ‘Make Music’.

Stefanie Sun returned to the music scene a year later, in 2004, with the album ‘Stefanie’. The album soon won her another Golden Melody award in addition to the two that she had earlier earned.
Since then, Stefanie Sun’s career has only gone up, despite her being periodically absent from the scene from time to time. Other than her musical achievements to date, Stefanie Sun has also earned the position of national ambassador for Singapore.
Stefanie Sun, in addition to being one of Singapore's best singers, has represented the country in events such as the Beijing Olympics, as well as in the composition and singing of national day songs, according to Channel News Asia.
With such a beloved and stellar reputation in Singapore, it came as a surprise to many when 8days reported that Stefanie Sun's own sister, Sng Ee-mei, made several accusations against the singer on Weibo.

According to The Straits Times, Sng Ee-mei had lashed out on Weibo on the eve of her birthday on January 5, stating that she had tried to contact her famous sister but had been buffed by Stefanie Sun since 2019.

The same report continues with Sng Ee-mei sharing her woes about having a famous sibling and blaming Stefanie Sun for the lack of support from the singer for being the cause of the lack of privacy in her private life, which did not get better even with Sng Ee-mei’s move to Australia.

In her Weibo post, Sng Ee-mei continues that she has decided to make the decision to cut ties with Stefanie Sun, stating that she seeks “release” from the singer, who “is no longer a sister” to her.

Days later, on January 8, Sng Ee-mei was reported by The Straits Times to have revealed hints of her complicated family life with Stefanie Sun, revealing that there was some aspect of favouritism in the family.

Sng Ee-mei had revealed on Weibo that Stefanie Sun was given preference over her and that her parents had pressured her to become a doctor in order to meet expectations that were hopelessly overshadowed by the singer's fame and success.
Despite her admission of the vulnerable pressures of living in the shadow of her famous sister, Today Online reports that netizens have been less than sympathetic to Sng Ee-mei's plight for sharing such private family affairs online.
