The world mourns Shinzo Abe: his funeral in photos
Japan's former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s funeral took place on 12 July 2022. As it was the last day to say their final goodbyes, many Japanese people wept at Abe's memorial.
Mourners from all over the world continue to pay their respects to the nation's longest-serving Prime Minister who held this position for nearly three decades.
Here is what went on in the days after Abe was shot and passed away on July 8, 2022.

As a sign of respect, India responded by flying their national flags at half-mast during their one-day state of mourning Shinzo Abe’s death. Countries that also flew their national flags at half-mast to mourn Abe include the US, The Republic of China (Taiwan), Thailand, and Cambodia.

Other than members of Japan’s LDP, global political figures such as South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeo and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken were in attendance at Abe’s vigil at Zojoji Temple.
Several political figures remotely paid homage to Shinzo Abe at the Japanese embassies in their respective countries, as they could not be at Zojoji Temple. This included French President Emmanuel Macron and Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen.
Shinzo Abe received the Order of the Chrysanthemum, the highest honor a Japanese citizen can receive, upon his passing. Only 53 Japanese citizens who are not members of the Japanese Imperial family, including Shinzo Abe, have received this prestigious honor.
