Shakira at the VMAs: "Thank you my children for making me believe mom can do it!"
Shakira appeared hand in hand with her children Sasha and Milan on the MTV Video Music Awards purple carpet. The Colombian then received the most important award of the night and devoted some emotional words to her children.
Despite the constant controversies over Sasha and Milan's public appearances, on which it seems that the separated couple Piqué and Shakira cannot agree, she brings her children to her most important events.
"Thank you to my children for encouraging me and making me believe that mom can do it," said the Colombian singer when she received the most important award of the night, which crowned her once again as the Latin queen of pop.
But she also did not forget her fans, to whom she said: "Thank you very much for being my army and helping me fight all the battles." Words she spoke in both English and Spanish to include a multilingual community.
Dressed in a long, gold dress with a metallic texture and signed by Versace, Shakira captured all eyes while walking on the purple carpet. The Colombian chose to use natural makeup.
She was nominated for four awards but was also chosen as the first Latina to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. The award recognizes the merit of artists and video directors and has been awarded only to a select group of artists.
The Beatles were the first to win this statuette, in 1984. Later, Madonna would do so in 1986, Michael Jackson in 1998, Beyoncé in 2014, JLo in 2018, Nicki Minaj in 2022, and now Shakira.
Finally, the singer starred in her first performance at the VMAs after 17 years, a moment in which she showed that she still had the talent, the body, and the hip movements that made her famous.
Although on a personal level, the recently separated artist has not had her best year, on a professional level she beat several records. The Guinness Book of Records names 14 special achievements in 2023 with Shakira and Bizarrap's 'Music Sessions #53'. She's also accumulated millions of views, sales, and followers.
At the VMAs, Shakira also added the award for 'Best Collaboration' to the collection. She got it for her work on 'TQG' with Karol G. After almost 30 years in the business, you could summarize her collection as more than 600 nominations, more than 400 awards, 13 Latin Grammys, and 3 Grammy Awards.
Without a doubt, the MTV Video Music Awards presented the singer with one of the best nights of the year. She keeps adding success to success, singing about her personal struggles in love and engaging her two children in her career path.
