Remember the famous cast of 'Pirates of the Caribbean'?
'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' was released on the 28th of June 2003. It was directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer. The film was an astonishing success and had several Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominations. The lead actor, Johnny Depp, won a Screen Guild Actors award.
The film was inspired by a Disneyland Theme Park ride called 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and the movie premiere was held in the Disneyland Resort Park in California. It was the first Disney movie to be PG-13.
As it was such a tremendous international box-office success, more 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movies would follow: 'Dead Man's Chest' (2006), 'At World's End' (2007), 'On Stranger Tides' (2011), and 'Dead Men Tell No Tales' (2017).
In the beginning, no one could have imagined how the success of the movie would influence the young and still relatively unknown actors in the cast. Although Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, and Orlando Bloom were already famous, 'Pirates of the Caribbean' launched other protagonists into Hollywood's star system as well.
20 years since its release, these actors and actresses have continued to work successfully. Do you remember them all?
The most famous, clever, chaotic, and weird pirate of the Caribbean is, without a doubt, Captain Jack Sparrow. Although he has spent many years without a crew and a vessel, the ingenious pirate tries to recover the Black Pearl. To do so, he has to face a mysterious part of his past.
Long before playing Captain Sparrow, Johnny Depp had his acting debut in the famous horror '80s film 'Nightmare in Elm Street' and was famous for his participation in the television show '21 Jump Street' (1987-1990).
The actor was soon drawn to independent cinema and starred in many important movies that have now become cult films, like 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?' (1993), 'Dead Man' (1995), and 'Donnie Brasco' (1997). Depp's recognition came especially thanks to his collaboration with Tim Burton. The actor and the director have worked together in eight films, the first and perhaps most iconic being 'Edward Scissorhands' (1990), while 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (2005) and 'Alice in Wonderland' (2010) are also highly acclaimed.
'Pirates of the Caribbean' meant Depp's big step into more mainstream cinema, with titles like 'The Tourist' (2010) or the J.K. Rowling films 'Fantastic Beasts' (2016) and (2018). He became one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood.
Due to the actor's constant public feuds and scandals, Depp's career slowed down in recent years. However, now that his domestic violence case against Amber Heard seems to be in the past, the actor is invited once again to play in productions like 'Jeanne du Barry' and Johnny Puff' (both 2023).
The young blacksmith of Port Royal unwillingly gets involved with Jack Sparrow. He has to risk everything and even discover some hard truths from his past in order to save the love of his life, Elizabeth Swann.

In the beginning, he had some small roles in the movies 'Wilde' (1997) and 'Black Hawk Down' (2001), but Bloom's acting breakthrough came with the role of Legolas in the trilogy 'The Lord of the Rings' (2001, 2002, 2003). The success of the movie pushed the actor towards another fantasy saga: 'Pirates of the Caribbean'.
After his appearance in 'LOTR' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean', Bloom was praised for his work in both sagas and was enjoying the biggest successful moment of his career. The actor then appeared in two other important projects, 'Troy' (2004) opposite Brad Pitt, and 'Kingdom of Heaven' (2005), directed and produced by Ridley Scott.
In recent years, the actor has also started working in television. Bloom had a main role in the Amazon Prime series 'Carnival Row' from 2019 to 2023. He's also released the movie 'Gran Turismo' in 2023 and there's more coming up. It's not the blockbuster work of his 'Lord' and 'Pirates' years, but he's doing fine.

Then, 'The King's Speech' (2010) along with Colin Firth, earned the actor a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
It's been a little quiet around Geoffrey Rush in recent years, apart from his Emmy-nominated role in the TV show 'Genius' (2017). Some #MeToo scandals for acts he was never officially proven guilty of, seemed to have slowed down his career. In the actor's next project, 'Raised Eyebrows', we will see Rush playing Groucho Marx, although the release date of the film is yet to be announced.
