Jacky Oh's cause of death revealed: botched cosmetic surgery
Jacklyn Smith, known as Jacky Oh!, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 32 in May 2023. She was known as one of the stars of the MTV program 'Wild 'N Out'.
TMZ first reported that the MTV star and influencer died due to complications from cosmetic surgery. People magazine later confirmed.
Just days before her death, Jacky Oh underwent a procedure that involved having liposuction and the fat transferred to her behind, according to autopsy reports seen by TMZ. The procedure is known as Brazilian B u t t Lift Surgery (BBL).

The day after the surgery, the autopsy report says she began to feel her head "burning" and she started having trouble speaking. She was with her aunt, who called 9-11, but Jacky went unresponsive before help could arrive and she was pronounced dead at the hospital. She had swelling in her brain and bleeding in the skin around her torso.

Before her death, she had posted about going to Miami to get a "mommy makeover." The post was later deleted.

A July 2017 report by the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation in Aesthetic Surgery Journal noted that one to two out of 6,000 BBLs resulted in death, the highest mortality rate for any cosmetic surgery. In 2018, the British association of plastic surgery advised surgeons in the UK to stop performing them altogether.
The procedure is so dangerous because the b u t tocks contain a lot of blood vessels, some as big as drinking straws, and these flow toward the heart and lungs, according to the New York Times. Sometimes doctors accidentally inject the fat into a muscle and it can travel toward vital organs.
