The wild story of the abduction of Lady Gaga's dogs
The saga of Lady Gaga's abducted pets has finally come to an end. A Los Angeles judge ruled that Lady Gaga does not have to pay a $500,000 finder's fee to Jennifer McBride, the person who returned the dogs after they had been violently taken from the singer's dog walker. As court documents show, cited by People magazine, the woman was complicit in the theft.
Judge Holly J. Fujie said that McBride's claim against Lady Gaga for the $500,000 finders fee "was legally insufficient in its entirety" due to her involvement in the robbery. The judge will not allow McBride another complaint, and the case is closed.
More than two years ago, on February 24, 2021, Lady Gaga's dog walker Ryan Fischer was robbed and shot in the neck on the streets of Los Angeles.
The result of that assault was the kidnapping of the pop star's two French bulldogs, named Koji and Gustav.
Once Ryan Fischer was out of life danger, Lady Gaga denounced the event and offered a reward to whoever helped in recovering her precious dogs. The finder's fee would be $500,000.
The artist waited a few days in agony, but then the nightmare ended and Koji and Gustaf returned home.
It was Jennifer McBride who, according to TMZ, returned the dogs to their rightful owner.
The delivery was made at the Los Angeles Olympic Community Police Station. Jennifer McBride simply appeared at the office with Koji and Gustaf.
The unexpected twist (or perhaps not so much) came when Jennifer McBride was arrested and accused of being an accessory to the robbery, TMZ reported.
The defendant, allegedly, maintained a relationship with the father of one of Ryan Fischer's assailants.
Well, if Jennifer McBride's plot twist in 2021 was surprising, what she had in store for 2023 was worthy of a Christopher Nolan movie.
Jennifer McBride has sued Lady Gaga... claiming the $500,000 reward for getting Koji and Gustaf back! Lady Gaga had not paid her because McBride appeared to have been part of the robbery.
Not only did she ask for the reward, but McBride also demanded a million dollars to compensate for what she calls a "deceptive reward." She complained that Lady Gaga did not make good on the promise of the reward she had made.
The woman argues that Lady Gada offered the reward "no questions asked," meaning that she should get it whether she was involved in the robbery or not.
Currently, Jennifer McBride is on probation, the Los Angeles County Assistant District Attorney Michele Hanisee (pictured) declared.
To put the disagreement in context, by late 2022, several people involved in the robbery had already been prosecuted. James Howard Jackson, the shooter of Ryan Fischer, has to serve 21 years in prison.
As the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office pointed out to the press, the defendant pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
Ryan Fischer, meanwhile, had to be operated on, and Lady Gaga covered the medical expenses. She called him a "hero" because he watched out for her and her dogs as a good friend.
Ryan Fischer himself said on CBS Morning that he stayed at the singer's house for months. "She's helped me so much. She's been a friend for me."
